Marksman 830, First Look, WOW! Pics & Video

Wow Steve, great pics and info! Mine came today too and I'm almost embarrassed to show these pics (photography is not my forte). This is a great knife. I can't believe how light it is. From all the pictures before it came I figured it would have some weight to it.

How does it feel in your hand?

It feels great. As Steve says the lock bar doesn't interfere with your grip at all. It feels almost like a Vantage or Paradigm as for weight. A lot of thought went into the design and geometry. Great fit and finish.

Thanks, I am looking forward to getting one, Congrats to you and Oregon for getting one and a big thanks to both of you for all the pics and info.

Wow Steve, great pics and info! You're like a color commentator at the Olympics. :) Mine came today too and I'm almost embarrassed to show these pics (photography is not my forte) after all the great ones you have posted. This is a great knife. I can't believe how light it is. From all the pictures before it came I figured it would have some weight to it.

Thank you for the kind words. I've got a dose and a half of the cutlery contagion so I love it.

Contrats on getting one. It is so light I cannot tell that it is actually in my pocket unless I touch it. I think they baked helium into the aluminum in the ovens in Idaho. I looked closely under light inside the handle and there are no lightening holes/carved out spaces. Magic probably.

I carry it in my right front pocket along with pens, tire guage and the 424. I will find out if I can open it accidentally just by being me and let you know. I had a ceramic folder that opened in my pocket, tip up carry position, and only noticed that it was open when the blade came thru my pants and away from me, fortunately. All tools have their risks.

This is quite a bargain from our good friend Larry. There were several on the auction site when I checked earlier today and that surprised me.

Oregon, MW, congratulations. Looks like a great knife.

Thank you kindly. It is the fastest opening flipper I've ever used and shocked me the first few times I worked it. It feels as if the knife "insists" of opening lightning fast and with no wear or tear on the flipping finger tip. Quite a surprise. I guess I was expecting that only a Boston bully boy would be able to work it or something. Walk in the park action right out of the box. One hand opening and one hand closing with ease and certainty. Everyone should own one of these. I wonder if Joe will be bringing some to OKCA in Eugene later this month. He might just have a few bargain blems...

The outside edges of the handle are beveled pretty good. I've tried pulling it from my blue jeans RF pocket several times and there is hesitation but nothing like it is stuck. I need a pocket carry knife to stay in my pocket because I am quite physical during my typical days and can lose just about anything, including wrist watch, accelerometer, rings, buttons and such. I like the clip.

I never had a problem climbing around on fishing boats and in fuel tanks with my knife in the chest pocket of my bibs. But I still hate those clips. I carry back pocket when I'm not wearing bibs so maybe that has something to do with it. Low rider clips are a passing fad I hope.

@ Chris Pierce, at least the pocket clip isn't ugly like some other brands, this knife has much more important and better features besides the pocket clip plus it's made in the USA and it looks to have one of the more superior locks on the market

The blade looks perfect on the Marksman 830, but it would be good if they made a clip point with the same locking system....I wonder if Buck is gonna make different models in the future and maybe a 4 inch blade.

Well, if it has a good detent, and I thought it did in the video, I will be on the look out for this one.

Do you guys think it would be safe to buy one these off of evilbay? I think it may be a little to early for knockoff yet.

 Here's hoping they do.

The only thing holding the blade open or closed is the lock bar/strap on top of the knife. Otherwise, the blade is on friction-less bearings. There is no other mechanism holding the blade. The strap only touches the blade nibs when 1" away from the closed position and when 1" away from the open position. This needs a video to show you what I mean.
