Marksman 830, First Look, WOW! Pics & Video

Cool good to know. I ordered one so I hope it lives up to the hype. The last buck knife that I had was so poorly made I wouldn't let anyone use it.

I will also, buck has some great technology in their knives, I love the Rush line with semi-assisted, and the 830 seems like another step ahead in knives!

Picked mine up from Larry at the Shenandoah Knife show along with my 110 Federal on Saturday. Thank you very much Larry. Both are beautiful knives. I've been carrying and using the 830 since about 10 minutes after I got it and am very pleased. Rock solid lockup, centered and nicely sharpened blade.

I ordered one and will have it within a few days.

I think that this will end up as one of Buck's most successful knives.

I could see it definitely competing with the Para Military 2 because it's almost in the same price range and made in the USA, plus it's got a stronger lock and good steel.

I agree, also puts it in line with BM Griptilian and Spyderco Manix 2.

Hello all. I'm new here, and just received my very own 830 Marksman. All I can say is that I love it! Now, before anyone crucifies me or anything, I did have a problem with mine. I had very poor blade retention in the handle, so I did a little mod to fix it. I just wanted to share this with you all in case you get one and have a similar problem. Here's my youtube video explaining the why and how. In my humblest opinion (who am I kidding, I'm proud of this), this mod makes the knife perfect.

Also, just want to say thank you all for the pics and videos, made my decision to purchase that much easier. :D

Enjoy hearing the feedback. The proto for this knife has been my EDC for a couple of years now. I am not kind to blades and the S30V is always my favorite.

So I guess Buck decided to go away from the S30V steel on this model? Or will there be other blade steels available for this knife?

I don't see why they wouldn't do different versions of the Marksman, like they have with the Vantage series.

It probably came down to what batches of blade steel they had available on hand when it went into production.

I wouldn't mind it at all if Buck took the Marksman in a similar direction as the Vantage line. I could see them offering an 830 with a DLC coated blade, maybe partially serrated, S30v or 420HC steel. Maybe a 4" version. In keeping with the shooting theme they could call the larger version the Buck Sniper or perhaps Rangemaster. Offer a small version like the Vantage and call it the Plinker.

I would imagine the color options for the aluminum handle is pretty broad as well. Could we see a Custom Shoppe with the 830 in the near future? Pick your blade steel, PE or serrated, handle color and maybe an option for plain or coated pocket clip and hardware.

You are a man with vision.

A Bucklite version with clear FRN scales would get me up on my hind legs.

CJ mentioned, above in this thread, that he carried the prototype 830 for two years so I figure that he probably won't turn his back on it. It would, IMHO, make a good platform from which to diversify options for it. I can the parts inventory people murmuring all the way from Idaho.

The lock strap reminds me of the peanut butter knife in Bucks camp kit they offerd last year.

Ok well I got mine today. Played with it today and it is an interesting knife. Quality is magnitudes better than the last Buck knife I owned, but i think the finishing process on the blade could be a bit better. I don't think it will kick my Umnumzaan out of my pocket for daily use, but I will definitely use it. I'm glad I picked it up.

What exactly is the little set screw for again?

There's a design flaw with it. Mine has a lock "bar" that has moved out of alignment, twice. This causes the blade to bounce against the lock bar and return to the closed position almost as fast as it opened (because the blade will not lock). There's enough momentum, spring tension from the lock bar, blade weight and edge sharpness to cause a nasty cut if you leave a finger wrapped around the handle during an opening sequence, and the knife doesn't lock open.
