Marksman 830, First Look, WOW! Pics & Video

A few photos of the 830 with a scale model of Hoyt Buck's anvil in tempered glass by the Buck Forum's own skilled craftsman Desert Chris. Bravo Chris. Bravo.

You are pushing/shoving me toward the camera with that kind of talk. You know what that means. Yup. You guessed it. More dang pics! :)

The rectangular nickel plated magnet crushing the background against my Steelcase metal desktop is so scary powerful that I handle it in a towel/gloves and wrap the steel 1" ball bearing in a towel and wrestle the towel back and forth to rest the bearing on the magnet. I could hold a 124 with that setup. An engineer I know won't enter the same room as this magnet. I get it out when I'm feeling brave.

If the 830 wore a suit it would use a rattlesnake as a necktie. If it drove a car it would be a Tesla. If it dated it would be with an rodeo queen/lingerie model. If it ate breakfast it would be steak & eggs. If it ran the mile it would be a spectacular time.

Been playing with mine for a few days now. A little break in and a minor adjustment and it is a one handed knife for me now. I have to use my body as leverage on the spine, the same way I would close a tight lockback.
Does any one know if the bearings are encased or free floating? I would love to take it down but don't want to try until I know the bearing setup. I could open it up on a magnetic tray to catch any wayward bearings. Now I just have to find my tray!

So you like it?? Hahahahaa!!
Gosh, I can't wait till one shows up here.
This pre-ordering knives thing is teaching me patience.

More action: One-handed opening and closing. Then repeat.

Do you think the finish will have issues with corrosion, I mean, it looks like a bead blast and those tend to speckle up with rust really fast....

great video!!

Now my next question is...... how well does the thumb hole work for deplyment of the blade?

I would be happy with a mirror finish on it.... maybe after someone takes it apart, and we find out if that is an easy task.
Then I would be tempted to hit the blade with the buffing wheel :)
Of course this is all after mine comes in the mail ;)

What bead blast? Are you talking about the Buck 830 Marksman? The blade is o so smooth, silky.

The blade is 154CM. A high-end stainless steel by Crucible Metals.

Thank you. I never missed a beat.

The thumb hole opens the knife easily. It has a crisp edge so my thumb gains purchase without a hitch.

I wonder if many will opt for that method of opening. I've gotten used to a flipper and don't even think about it when I go to open the blade. It is muscle memory now.

Sweet!

If I had a cut on my finger I would likely use the thumbhole.
And if I had a cut on my thumb the flipper would be the choice (like right now....sliced thumbtip on a bamboo pole/stake in the garden yesterday)

Thank you for posting all this, so I can live vicariously through you while I wait for mine to arrive :D

ah, must be that glass bead finish they used on the Tops collab, more like a stone-wash really then.

The blade on the 830 is smooth on all sides.

Looking thru a 16x loupe I see the typical highly organized parallel microscopic machining lines left after the machine removed blade material in order to taper it toward the cutting edge. I cannot feel these lines with my finger tip or with my finger nail.

I don't see any evidence of stone washing, which would be large number of tiny scratches, anywhere on the blade.

Just found out about this knife from Oregon posting a link in the EDC thread, thanks! I am a Spyderco guy, but love G&G Hawk. Does anyone have both the 830 and a Kershaw R.A.M.? I would like to see some comparison pics, and thoughts about the action and flipper.
