Massdrop exclusive Spyderco Delica

I was really interested in this one, but the price made me hesitant to hit the "join" button. I kind of like the look of the blade. Yeah, a bit kitchy, but I don't have anything like it. Nor do I have anything in zdp 189. And the thought of a g10 Delica was kind of neat too. I have a slab of CF that would be fun to try my first stab at a replacement on a knife with full liners. But....$200? [emoji51][emoji30]

^^^ Yup!! I figured this would be cool for my first Delica. Not crazy bout FRN at all. No way I'm dropping $200 on that knife.
For $200 I'd expect to see at least some interesting micarta or carbon fiber.
Definitely a pass for me.

Yep.. Pass for me as well. I have been on a delica kick lately and was hoping for better price.
The acid etching is a real turn off for me on top of the hefty price tag.

So just read that massdrop is supposed to be in contact with spyderco about getting the price down because so many people complained.

On this small sized run with the materials being used and the etch (like it or not...) I'm not expecting it to be lowered much especially with the Stretch 2 pricing being higher yet.

The big issue is when they were teasing it there was no mention of price. That's fine and all but when it ended up 50%-100% more than people were expecting, especially from a site that's made its image on getting lower prices, I can't believe they thought it would go over well.

Massdrop shows this exclusive with an MSRP of $284.95 so at normal Spyderco MAP (40% off MSRP) it should be $170.97. Right now, at $199.99 it's at 30% off MSRP.

Good call, they dropped the price to ~$169.

At that price I can see others buying it. Still more than I want to pay for a Delica, especially with the PM3 coming as well as the WC Delica and a few others. Just not high enough on the priority list.

The price was recalculated to $169.99. Not to terribly bad for a Sprint run. If more people would jump on board the price would drop even more. Come on guys it's from one of our favorite knife manufacturers Spyderco. Right? ;)

The price will not drop anymore $169 is the lowest it will go no matter how many people join.

I'm still thinking $170 is still full retail. Well ok, regular street price (MAP accounted), if every major dealer had it. Sure, it's a limited sprint, so the funding dealer (massdrop in this case) wants the opportunity to maximize returns. But the way massdrop is marketed, they give the impression that they are only taking a fixed margin, and passing the rest on to customers. Yeah, I know, very juvenile and overly optimistic view. I'm relatively new to the massdrop platform. But still optimistic that most items are actually discounted beyond average street prices because of pre-negotiated prices. But since BHQ has FRN/zdp189 for around a buck, is the little bit if g10 and blade color worth the extra $70?

Design crap on the blade, plain jane black G10, $200.

No thanks, but I do hope for a better version G10 Delica and soon.

Edit: Oh, it's $170 now... Still a pass.

It's interesting they chose ZDP-189, a steel which is already available on the standard production British Racing Green model. If they had offered a steel we haven't yet seen in the Delica platform I think there would be a lot more interest, even with the high price tag.

I did the math using blade HQ as my baseline and came up with the $150 price. The catch is that those were both for knives in production. The more you make the less it costs; so for me a $20 bump is in my comfort zone.

I'd be for sure happier if it was less but more of a concern is the high first price really took the wind out of the sails here. The drop still has a long way to go to meet the minimum.
