Massdrop/Laconico Keen

This is one of the few massdrop knives I probably would have purchased...I just can't get by the massdrop labeling on the blade.

I haven't bought it either but wondering if there is any way of toning down the Massdrop logo a bit without ruining the finish on the blade?

Not likely.
Before people start saying that the massdrop logo doesn't affect the function of the knife - I understand that...but if Blade HQ negotiated with a maker and brought us the most amazing SFO ever, and stuck their name/logo on it, I wouldn't buy that either.
@Massdrop - now that you've got a presence here, I might as well invite you to the discussion.

It's odd that the branding doesn't bother me. Those things usually do. At least it doesn't say Coca-Cola or similar.

It’s not an SFO or sprint run of someone else’s existing product, it’s a commissioned design that they contracted an OEM to manufacture. They own the IP for their product, why wouldn’t they have their name on it?

I brought this up in my review, but I don’t expect people to watch that, so here’s my take on the Keen billboarding:

It’s not a big deal.

Nothing.

Nothing visible. The text is on the outside of the blade.

I haven’t thought about it at all, except when watching or recording video.

Hey all - So my Keen arrived today and the blade is off-center (see pic). Not a ton, but enough to drive me batty.

So I emailed Massdrop the pic, explained the issue and requested a replacement or refund. This is the email I got in reply. Would love to know if you think I’m being unreasonable and this is an acceptable knife, or if they should replace. I’ve owned a Buc and Gent and both have been perfectly centered blades with great detent and action.

Hi Dan,

This is Cheyenne with MassdropCommunity Support, and I'd be happy to assist you with this!

After talking this over with my team, I'm afraid we don't see any reason to warranty a refund or facilitate a return. Please let me explain.

I can see that this product is Massdropmade, this means that this particular knife is hand made on order. With that, there made be some natural variation. However, my team and I have all come to the same consensus that the blade doesn't appear to be off center and is well within tolerance.

I know this wasn't the answer you were hoping for, but I hope I was able to clarify things a bit. If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Sincerely,”

Yes I trust the validity of your test  Most ZTs should be fine I believe. That guy mentioned most of his ZTs had lock rock out of box, which is strange. For the 12+ ZTs I tried, only one second hand 0562 had lock rock, which the seller revealed it to me. It shoulg be easy to see that a framelock with lock rock is more likely to slip.

I agree with him that everything else being the same, early lockup is more likely to slip than late lockup, and locks without gailing / stickiness are more likely to slip than those with gailing

That’s a tough pill to swallow. I’m debating offering to trade it for my centered gray + groove.

Massdrop sucks when it comes to fixing problems. I purchased a pair of boots, and one of the lace hooks was detached when it got here - they couldn't provide an exchange, and wouldn't facilitate one from the manufacturer.
The knife doesn't have the complication of different size, so it is more straightforward; but it isn't defective...and, more importantly, you already messed with it.
