Massdrop/Laconico Keen

Massdrop sucks when it comes to fixing problems. I purchased a pair of boots, and one of the lace hooks was detached when it got here - they couldn't provide an exchange, and wouldn't facilitate one from the manufacturer.
The knife doesn't have the complication of different size, so it is more straightforward; but it isn't defective...and, more importantly, you already messed with it.
Good to hear about your experience with Massdrop. Sounds like you’re also of the opinion that the knife is within tolerances... LOL, I’m beginning to think that those of us who can’t stand non perfectly centered blades are in the small minority, maybe I need therapy hahaha.

This blade is every bit as nice as a $220 ZT. The only criticism is that it would be nice if the scales had some internal milling to reduce weight but it’s a minor criticism. I might pick another one up next week. Thanks for turning me on to this knife!

Just got mine today. Very impressed so far.

ok, ok, ok....so, i saw the keen "suggested" to me via one of the many massdrop emails. i took a look and was intrigued. i asked my confuser for a review and discovered this thread. and well thanks to all you jamokes, i ordered one.

...and it arrived today! i guess i have to immediately apologize for being smarmy. i'm not much for gushing, but i like this knife. and, please know i've tried several other quality titanium knives and didn't like a one of 'em. but, i like this one. the action is super smooth. f&f is good. centering good. the handle is a good length for my hand. and, in general, the proportions (so to speak) are good. and, i love the leaf shaped blade (i didn't even say "good" again). in fact, that's what made me take a closer look at it.

i got the titanium gray with portals. i couldn't find any good lighting to post a pic, but will do so tomorrow. i owe it to you fine gentlemen. ;) :D

cheers!

wait, are there actually people that don't like the knife? hmmm....

Hey all - So my Keen arrived today and the blade is off-center (see pic). Not a ton, but enough to drive me batty.

So I emailed Massdrop the pic, explained the issue and requested a replacement or refund. This is the email I got in reply. Would love to know if you think I’m being unreasonable and this is an acceptable knife, or if they should replace. I’ve owned a Buc and Gent and both have been perfectly centered blades with great detent and action.

Hi Dan,

This is Cheyenne with MassdropCommunity Support, and I'd be happy to assist you with this!

After talking this over with my team, I'm afraid we don't see any reason to warranty a refund or facilitate a return. Please let me explain.

I can see that this product is Massdropmade, this means that this particular knife is hand made on order. With that, there made be some natural variation. However, my team and I have all come to the same consensus that the blade doesn't appear to be off center and is well within tolerance.

I know this wasn't the answer you were hoping for, but I hope I was able to clarify things a bit. If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Sincerely,”

Quick follow up - the knife is really amazing. Somehow the centering is fine now (OK, I know this sounds bizarre, but after cleaning and oiling it’s fine, maybe something was just slightly off when assembled at factory) - and I’ve used it for EDC around the house. Can’t say enough about it, considering picking up another.

I’m glad that had a happy ending for you! I was going to get back to you on it today. Looks like it all worked out as is.

Thanks, man! Hope you enjoy yours, as well. FWIW, the Keen is kicking my CRKs and Shiro F95 out of my pocket last few days. We’ll see if the love affair continues, haha. But for now I’m kind of blow away.

It’s had that effect on me, as well. I’m still waiting to see if it’ll fade. I’ve had it on me every day, and feel outside of the honeymoon period. The Keen now feels like it’s just a part of my day.
