Masters Of Defense knives

Unfortunately the only thing I haven't done is figure out release dates for things, but I agree with your guess sh00ter01, the Cara Cara was most likely at the tail-end of MOD but a Blackhawk inspired design, but can' say 100%. I bought one in 2007, I don't think Cara Cara's ever came in early orange MOD boxes, only in the black "Blackhawk" MOD boxes. If we use that as an indicator, most likely it was a Blackhawk influenced piece. It is a nice knife, felt good in the hand.

I thought the original MOD karambit was the Ladyhawk and that the Cara came later with Blackhawk.

Yep, the Castillas Lady Hawk was for sure original pre-blackhawk MOD, it came in the original orange MOD box and was included in the early rare numbered sets. Cara-Cara definitely showed up later, in black MOD/Blackhawk boxes.

Here are my two. The One with the spike was purchased while I was in Fire standards in 2001. I came across the auto 7? years ago and paid $180 IIRC. I have a question, is the steel 154cm? It is not marked like my early production. I included pics of the box for the auto. My current carry auto is the Rat Worx MRX and love it.

Thanks, been a member since 11 but never posted. Having recently bought an MRX caused me to renew my knife obsession.

The box is Blackhawk so the knife is from after the buyout of the original company. I know the originals were 154CM but you could check the current Blackhawk lineup and see what they use.

The bottom one looks like it may be an original model. For some reason the blade looks a little higher quality---bead blast vs. a coating on the top one (?)---and it has the full indicia of the designer like the originals.

EDIT: I've had my eye on that MRX for a year or so. Just waiting to hear from a few people who own one or see some reports.

The bottom is an original pre-Blackhawk, and the top IIRC is during the period when MOD was part of the Blackhawk product group but manufacture was still the original MOD company. I had been following them during the transition into the Blackhawk made knives and have regretted not purchasing more. I also think that is when they transitioned out of the 154cm steel.

Glad I found this thread. I remember purchasing some MOD stuff years ago and after searching my storage items, I found a box of knives from about 12-15 years ago (right before I got married). Aside from being fondled a few times (the knives) from when I first purchased them, they're all still NIB with warranty cards:p There's also a non-auto Lady Hawk (no box) some S&W autos in the box as well from the same time period.

So I know this thread is quite old, but I'd like to share my find. It's the large tanto manual folder and I got it for 25$ at a pawn shop in Minnesota. Had been sitting there for years. I decided to look it up and saw it once retailed for 225 so bought it instantly.

Brand new in the box?
