thanks for the thought
but I think just the steel might be better, Bruce does sole authorship and his customers may like him to keep it that way once he can get going again.

the biggest problem is the finishing part where he has the shakes so bad.
belts and stuff like that, that he can't buy right now may go father
just my opinion though..

I'll get some packed up this weekemd and send it out first thing next week.
Hope he don't mind some hex stock.

Larry

Sorry to hear of the medical problems. Bruce, if ya read this, I'm pullin' for ya!

Since I mostly make miniatures, most of my stock and materials are scraps from other makers. And my financial situation has already forced me to sell off about everything I can.

Bruce is good people. I'd still like to do something to help out, but am not sure what I could offer...

Dan,
Thanks for helping
Ill send a few goodies!

If you all want to raffle knives let me know.
I have some heats I will throw in.

Bruce's tutorials are darn good...and a resource to me as a knifemaker.
Check on the way....

Hapy Birthday to the pretty Young Ladies!

Donna, " Thorough health and sickness" is real true.....

Good Lady,
Take care of that Knifemaker!

;) Well Graymaker, not so great minds think alike too! I talked to bruce on tuesday and from what I understand it has something to do with his thyrod, I just sent him a check for the most I could before I saw this thread. I got enought medical problems myself to know he might be having a tuff time just paying for the medications. new brand name drugs can cost me over $100.00 for a 30 day supply. so you say well It's A benji down the drain:( then the doctor says well lets try this one also. so now we are up to $200.00 now wait! theres the $10-50 bucks for the doc's office visits, and then there are the two trips to the ER at 3:00 that are another 50-100 or more depending on insurance. for instance this month cost me over $500.00 for a bout of kidney stones, and the month of july is only 3/4s over.and that is just meds & co-pays so all the belts and steel sounds great! But the man has to get back in working shape before he will get any benefit from any of it. I know everyone wants to help. And because of the shape bruce is in right now! the best way is CASH! $10-20-50-200.00 or buy those knives those good people donated. Laurence rhinoknives.com

I didn't want to get into the details of the problem. as he may have told you, it's a different type of problem than most get with a thyroid problem..
it's not the weight gain thing that most deal with,,,I know what you mean
and basically what he's been told...
the doctor is killing it and saying lets see what to do after, this seems a bit,, OK .. now what do we do type deal ,like you say they just try this and try that not caring much if you have to dump meds down the drain..
yes I too know as well the costs of meds  one of mine out of 5 is $300.00 a month and with no insurance, the VA helps a lot with them with a co-pay from me..
I've mentioned both goods and money would be good to guys that have
e-mailed me,, two reasons.. as Bruce gets up and moving he'll need stuff to work with to make money too..the Doctors can't or won't want steel or belts as payment, but will want money in the bank..
at times it would seem money would be the whole answer but the doctors and hospitals will send bills and will wait for it, it's the nature of the beast. it's like the old saying...
if you give a man food he will eat for a day, if you give him tools he can feed himself for a life time.. OK, it's a new saying.. I changed the saying a little :) but you get my drift...some of the guys want to give money and some goods because that's all they have to give..it all will find it's place I'm sure.

Bruce said he can do some forging but the shakes will keep him from finishing anything,( right now) and customers have drop orders because of him not knowing when they can be filled..so in light of that, supplies are needed also..I'm not good with words and less appt with the key board, but it's my take on the situation in whole..
Laurence thanks for bringing this up, it explains the situation a bit better with a better look at both ends

again thanks for the help guys:thumbup:

Well mr graymaker Knives (don't know why you changed it?)I know about how bucks up all of us knife makers are:rolleyes: I was letting guys know that along with some belts & steel, 10-20 dollars just might help keep the telephone & electricity on or food on the table. not to mention he and Donna have those two young ladies to buy school clothes for real soon!

I know you were just reiterating...:)

I'm not going to mention who did what,, but one of the guys here sent a pretty good sum (you know who you are  ) :D with half designated for the girls B-days..and BTW they are using it for their school supply's and not junk a good choice for sure, I think boys would have gone for the junk...well mine would have anyway..

One thing I didn't mention,,, those of you that have girls know just how much it takes to dress those little darlings.. I had boys, but my sister had all girls,, lucky me:) until car times rolled around..:( so yes money is a GOOD thing too for sure :)
I do see your point on the ele bills, food and such, and again I knew both were being sent,, I had a hand up on you and didn't think about mentioning it..my Bad..or did I? I can't remember..
hey Laurence ... just how "Bucks up" are you anyway :D we should start a poll
on who's the poorest maker in all the land..I'll bet it would be a very interesting
poll if the truth was told all around..
haha I'm just funning ,, Grass hopper has more money than I have, everyone knows that..hahaha :D
you guys know what you can and can't do..and it all will have it's place..the best part is,, feeling good about helping with what you can...thanks again..

it sure is different today
My wife is a teacher , that is if she gets a job this year..
(she got cut because of cut backs)
between what the schools don't supply now, and what the parents that can't afford the stuff left needed was left for the wife and other teachers, buying stuff from there own pay checks.. anything town voter controlled you'll just sweak by..at least it's the way here.
one school my wife worked at she supplied the books,,
and they wonder why
the kids don't get taught properly. I can tell you what kids should do with thier Ipods, cell phones and stuff :D

Dave and lurence I got filled in today, very nice , thank you..
Laurence way to go killing two birds with one stone that way  now that's multi-tasking:)

RUJOCO ,, you just sliped up :) I did'nt connect you with Rudy
thank you for what you did also

Dan,
My old lady is a teacher too, and I could not believe it when she asked me for money to buy her "kids" pencils and art supplies. When I was a kid, we just dragged our asses to school and everything was there. Where does my tax money go?

Chuck BYBEE if your looking, (or Ray) you have a Knife and sheath combo coming from
Prayer knives please let me know when you receive it so I can record it....thanks Dave  ,,

you got it Rudy the money goes to the ones that plan all the stuff that don't need planning I guess or it could be the Gov and their cut
they just made the base pay for them a whopping 27K for this coming year :o
nursing starts out at 50K a year at EMMC with the same money and time spent in a BS
you really have to love teaching to do that, that's for sure..:o

You're right..."You gotta love it" to give up a $40.00 an hour job and spend 4 years (not working) to get a masters degree to make 30K. I never understood her logic.

I better quit now....Always a sore subject. She could of supported me while I made a fortune making knives. ho ho ho.

tell me about it, Vickie has just 3 more classes to get her Masters in literacy
$$$$$
she got her Bs in 2 1/2" years  very proud of her,, but that just cost averaged it higher per year:( the masters has been part time, she'll have it in May this coming..and she wants her PHD next  she's 48 now and I can't see it paying off.:o she's only been teaching for 5 years now..
she went back to school after the boys were grown and mostly a stay at home mom before then..it's been a tuff row to hoe this last 7 + years..what can I say though :)

Luckily (for me?) I've been able to work 7 days per week and never turn down work (carpenter 34 yrs). Thank mom and dad for a strong work ethic or else I'm just #@^%*& nuts.

WOW !!!!

Hey evrybody,I never thought something like this would ever happen to me,Donna and myself are at a very big loss of words.I have been wanting to post something here but just get all choked up and cant figure out what to say other than
"THANKS"

The medical condition I have is called Graves Disease. It only happens to a average 1 man for every 8 woman.Once the doc gets my thyroid killed maybe the medicine can get me back to being myself (a little less grumpy:D ).

When this thread was started I let Donna read it and also when the first person sent some money for help,She broke down and cried and said"I cant believe there are so many people out there willing to help us out".We both cannot say Thank You enough.

Bruce
