Luckily (for me?) I've been able to work 7 days per week and never turn down work (carpenter 34 yrs). Thank mom and dad for a strong work ethic or else I'm just #@^%*& nuts.
34 years  ;) just a bit nuts welcome to the crowd :D

I started slowing down (less then 7 days a week) about 3 years ago..I just can't take it any more, I got burned out and the back and joints are giving away...:(
..you know as well as I though a true Business man  :)
it's not just 7 days a week, it's more like 7 24 365 every waken hour the angle is work..mileage, Wright offs, paper work, what can I use this for to deduct for taxes and so on and so on,, right?? :)

Dan,
True to all the above, but my problem is repeat customers or refferals from them. My phone doesn't stop from March to November. I swore when I turned 50 I'de slow it down but now at 51 I still can't say no to $$$. I do get some down time in winter but I'm never out of work completely. Am I lucky or what? Most of my knifemaking is in winter but I chomp at the bit all year.

Rudy, sounds like you have the rep..
Time to subcontract good help:rolleyes:good luck:) and supervise
let the young bucks make you the money, my son is working for a subcontractor and that guy makes some big $$$
my boy is not doing bad either..

Try and find good help!!! Nobody wants to work anymore. Keep it small...and keep it all.

I didn't mean on hyjacking this thread this way. Is Bruce heading in the right direction healthwise or just keeping his own?

there's a few out there willing to work,,, a few :)

keeping his own right now..
it's early right now, if the first injection doesn't kill the Thyroid then he'll have to go have another one, once it's dead, then they'll have to find out if, what and how much they'll have to put him on for hormones to get him normal again..it could be a while..

Dan I apreciate your posting, I'd heard something about it but had no clue it was that bad. You can count me in for an auction knife. I don't know for sure if I'll get it done in time though, the work situation is in one hell of a mess.

Thanks Will

Had a long conversation with Bruce the other night. He is apparently in good spirits and acutely aware of his condition. Both of my daughters have Graves (Greaves?) disease and were not doing well until after treatment. The older girl had radiation particles inserted to subdue the thyroid. The results were amazing and made a wonderful change for the better. Their lives were so much better and they now live completely normal lives. The sad part is that they were afflicted for years without knowing they were ill. They just accepted the condition as normal and suffered the consequences. Thank God for modern medication. ---Sandy---

Hey fellas, my wife had thyroid cancer a few years back, and getting her meds right was tough on her what with the weight gain of hypo thyroidism, lack of energy, and depression about all of the above. God willing ol Bruce will bounce back..heck hes a knifemaker so he cant be too long on brains and sometimes thats a good thing ha ha..ive never met the man, but he has helped me out several times thru his chat at his place. My prayers are with him and his family . My knives arent of auction quality but i would like to do something..it seems like the rich and greedy just get richer and the good people are always being put thru the ringer..remember Job i guess..anyway someone send me an address and ill send him some 5160 or something ..if anyone talksto him i hope theyll convey my best wishes and tell the girls happy birthday from the Swenson family in Texas.

P.S. whats his flavor ? round square or otherwise thanks..
