Mick Strider has some explaining to do.

Hey beats me I like it here, KF's, and really like the JD. As for Strider b.s.ing his military career that doesn't bother me. His knives don't bother me as they must be ok as a ton of people buy them. Not his loosing the slander court case, that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that he did 5yrs in Lewisburg for a car jacking! That bothers me. Other than that everything is alright with me. keepem sharp

PS Strider has responded to this post on the USN. What everyone is saying here everyone is saying over there too only in the affirmative for him. Like I said my only conern is the car jacking thing. Weird ain't it. The only other thing I can think of saying as I have seen a few USN'rs on here is that there is definetly no honor in carjacking a vehicle.
While these are nefarious if true, what bothers me about Strider is making stainless prybar knives made from the latest steel, first ATS34,then briefly from BG84 when it was considered the Holy Graal for a few months, and now S30V.I bought a skeletal 5160 Siegle Utility ,wrapped it with 550 and have a knife that Strider SHOULD HAVE made for a half the price.

Michelle,

Maybe you should PM or e-mail Spark on that. Let's try to keep this thread on-topic. Thank you.

With all due respect Sir..... where were you when other threads were getting hopelessly derailed and off-topic? Why is my post held to a standard that other posts and threads are not? I can give you a list if you want.......

What we are dealing with is someone who is claiming to be honest and above-board, and interested in "outing" someone else who is not. But there is already a chink in the armor of honesty by the "altruistic outter".

Why do we require that matter go to PM, when others of a similar vein don't have to?

Edited to add: Spark, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions in a different thread.... truly. So could you please explain to me why you told MadDog you were banned from Badlands, when in fact, I bent over backward to give you access? Thank you Sir.

I would hope there is a reasonable answer such as an oversight or brainfart but I believe Michelle has a point. In this instance. To be fair. (As far as having to take her questions to PMs. The reason I like BF is because you can say what you want here, hopefully respectfully, without fear of being censured or banned.)

There's a chink in Spark's honor, obviously everything posted is a lie, let's go get pancakes.

I guess the readership of BF is expected to be distracted by nice, shiny pennies as well.

Maybe Spark was trying to go to Badlands using Firefox and thought he was banned when the login box doesn't come up?:p

A seriously small chink in the armor compared to basically writing one's own Lord of the Rings saga, starring himself of course.

Can you ask Mick if he needs any 9mm for his P226? I have some laying around and he doesn't seem to be barred from firearms possession like the common ex-con.

Any ex-con can have his rights restored by the state after so many years. I can't say thats what Mick has done, but it is legal.

How is facts and even statements made by Mick Himself misinformation? I've never understood people who believe in someone soooo much that they are blinded. I personally do not own a Strider Knife, my bitch is as a Veteran, and lies made to make someone better than they are. If anyone has a problem with that, then leave. I've seen too many heroes buried from this war, and then to have someone blatantly lie about their own service. I have no need for you. There are too many wanna-bes and arm chair commandos out there who want to stroke Mick hoping to be touched or spoken to by a REAL AMERICAN HERO. As stated in past pages, if he would of just came out and said, "hey I'm a vet and alot of Spec Ops guys carry my knives," then I wouldn't have a bitch. As long as someone comes out and keeps saying the lies, there will always be someone out there to fight against the lies. And how can we as a people want to believe someone who was arrested and sentenced for a carjacking?????? A carjacking is not a badge of honor, accept to thieves and crooks, but some people want to believe this is the type of person to associate with or want to call a friend. So those leaving for Used Suspects Land, keep on keeping on, but please, do so away from me.

Ain't gonna happen in California. You'd have to be a former politician or a movie star. Ten rounders must be a pain in his "go-to" gun.:D

OK, I have read everything and still don't see any lie proven.

It has been confirmed he was in the Army, in the Ranger Battalion, and discharged honorably

Next I called the special warefare center at Ft Bragg, in the past they have helped me contact old classmates of mine, I was referred by them to the Rangers.org web site (large alumni base info and records) that linked me to the U.S. Army Infantry website, that gave me the contact I needed at Ft Benning Georgia, to a Public Affairs officer and a operations officer incharge of the ACAP ( alumni and career placement), because of Mick's involment with the Ranger challenge and sponsorship they could tell me from a previous press release( a Bio) that they did on him ,the following info, His MOS was infantry, he graduated airborne training, graduated Ranger school, served in a Ranger Battalion and was honorable discharged. If you search there Army news paper archieve you will find the same info, also there is a photo of him and his graduating class and photo's of the Ranger challenge events.
I will report this fairly and unbiased though, no mention of combat service, I cannot confirm or verify the validity of that information.
I will stick to my original opinion, I like the guy, I have had good dealings with him, his products and the company, much better service and delivery times than half of the knifemakers I have been waiting three plus years to make and deliver a knife. He his doing a bang up job supporting our troops, law enforcement and the overall American way of life. I really dont care about what a man did 20 years ago, its what he is doing right now to make a differnce

He has admitted to the carjacking charges, which have nothing to do with this.

The big hangup seems to be did he do extra-military combat. No-one on this or any of the other threads has shown what he did 86-92. As others have said, it generally takes a secret clearance to get into these outfits, maybe he isn't inclined or allowed to talk about details. So we have a mans word (granted a lot of individuals have tried to rip that down) against no evidence. Everything else he has said is true. People have wanted to read more into statements made by him, but I am not seeing it.

So I will look to the evidence showing his statements to be true as far as evidence shows, and look at his current character, and what he does for the military and others, and make the judgement.

Please, if you have information, say something that shows Mick on a beach somewhere surfing during the years not shown, please show it. Otherwise, please show me an untruth told by Mick that you evidence isn't true. Not that his DD214 form is in lower case (the quote above shows that it is accurate) or the form date is older than you thought it should be.

WRT the lawsuit, anyone can sue, and it can be expensive to defend, maybe that's why he settled the way he did. Only him and Chris can confirm/deny the reasons.

Wow, I thought a lie was a lie, period, with all this honor stuff. But I guess the ends justify the means. So if, I lie, to prove you lie it's OK???

STeven, I agree, there is a difference. I, however, don't know Spark any more than I know Mick. Perhaps, as well, my expectations are "unrealistic," but given Spark's high maturity levels in the past, it still gave me a bit of a turn.

Mr. Linton, those are exactly the facts I'm talking about. They've been out there all along, and have CERTAINLY been in plain view for more than a year. If you didn't know about them, I'm sorry. *I* knew about them, and I'm HARDLY an expert.

With all due respect Sir..... where were you when other threads were getting hopelessly derailed and off-topic?

This site is not moderated 24/7.

Why is my post held to a standard that other posts and threads are not?

I have asked several people here to stay on-topic.

What we are dealing with is someone who is claiming to be honest and above-board, and interested in "outing" someone else who is not. But there is already a chink in the armor of honesty by the "altruistic outter".

As I asked earlier in this thread, if you have a problem with someone else, you may start a separate thread.

Why do we require that matter go to PM, when others of a similar vein don't have to?

I do not require anything. I suggested to you what I have suggest to several others already: that we try to keep this thread, which has quite a potential to become messy, on-topic. The topic you've raised sounds like a matter between you and Spark.

I am a pretty selfish guy. I joined Blade Forums to learn more about blaksmithingknives. So far, from what I read on the subject of blacksmithing/knives on this forum. It is a good place to learn. I see lots of examples of very nice knives crafted that I would only hope to be able to make one day. I have read quite a few post about this Strider guy. I dont care about him one way or another. I have enough trouble taking care of my family, paying bills, working, etc to concern myself with another guys morals. I will never fit into the mold of the collectors who can pay premium dollars for a knife. I wish I could, but I know my limitations when it comes to financial matters. Please dont take this post as anything other than a plea to get back to knife making. I beg of you to show pics of your styles, how-to, and other stuff. I am here in Iraq. I do have internet access and am trying to make the most of my time behind a computer while I am over here. So, the more I read on custom knife making, the more I might soak into this hard head of mine. I only worry about what I have direct control over.

PriceCW - The extract you received is bogus. Micks MOS proves he did NOT complete RANGER SCHOOL. His own DD214, Striker Approved, shows he did not complete RANGER SCHOOL. He only completed RIP, RIP is not RANGER SCHOOL.

Paul

Carl, you simplify too greatly, I fear. There are his comments, quoted, about combat as a serviceman and his claims about an opportunity, as a "DX'd" former Private, to being sent to Somalia in some non-service combat capacity in lieu of incarceration. Those attempting to suspend judgment have no credible basis to believe those claims, and they seem unlikely on the present evidence. Faith may "move mountains," and Mr. Strider clearly has loyal friends, but faith may not move the opinion of most under the existing circumstances.

That "proof" doesn't even square with Mogadishu's own accounting of his brief career.

The big hangup seems to be did he do extra-military combat. No-one on this or any of the other threads has shown what he did 86-92. As others have said, it generally takes a secret clearance to get into these outfits, maybe he isn't inclined or allowed to talk about details.

The only pertinent details are who was going to take a dirtbagger E-1 with a profound spinal injury, remarkably light training, and precious little experience? Furthermore, who'd be letting this character LEAD, going so far as to call the shots on unit load-outs for missions?

So we have a mans word (granted a lot of individuals have tried to rip that down) against no evidence. Everything else he has said is true. People have wanted to read more into statements made by him, but I am not seeing it.

You aren't looking very hard.

So I will look to the evidence showing his statements to be true as far as evidence shows, and look at his current character, and what he does for the military and others, and make the judgement.

His current character, such as it is, includes the recent tall tale that he was going to be "punished" by deploying to Somalia just in time to star in Blackhawk Down. He should have a copy of the plea offer somewhere since it was only yanked
the morning of sentencing.

Looks like we need to get his ex on the horn. She apparently knows about his personal decorating by the head of the CIA.

WRT the lawsuit, anyone can sue, and it can be expensive to defend, maybe that's why he settled the way he did. Only him and Chris can confirm/deny the reasons.

And to think that people used to die for their honor.:D

Excuse me for my relative ignorance. I had only read about his problems with the criminal justice system.

If it is generally known that he was not offered a stint in Somalia in lieu of incarceration, why is he apparently repeating that claim? What would a true friend counsel him to do in his own best interests?.

...What would a true friend counsel him to do in his own best interests?

Were it untrue- note here that I have no specifics in this case, and admit that up front- a friend would tell him to button up. However, one can only offer a suggestion. What someone does with that advice is beyond the giver of that advice.

The GB&U forum is not meant for discussion of knifemaking techniques, and you won't find threads like this one on Shop Talk or the Toolshed.
