Really cool sub-frame lock and back spacer...

I don't think I've seen that before, have I?

:barf: Surprised they didn't do a composite blade too. :thumbdn:

Whale Shark?!? What an odd name for a knife.

Sorry, if you ask me, this is a total miss in every category except for "poser".

Wow. Even the Mods are trolling.....

If it's not a Becker, ZT, or Spyderco it's crap and a ripped off design, right? Get a grip people. While Microtechs aren't my cup of tea I do find it interesting that everybody and their memes can dog the company, yet you put one up for sale and it's gone in twenty minutes.

Naw, it's a ripped off design if it copies a new development like, say, a subframe lock. And if the knife is just a modified version of a knife that any idiot could see is almost an exact copy of the 0777. As for the sales, I hear Justin Bieber albums are flying off the shelves. Does that in any way prove that his music doesn't suck?

In case you missed it, this will get you up to speed on the issue. They carried the lock bar and back spacer over to this model after copying it for their "Matrix". The horse may have been beaten to death, but decomposition gives the illusion of movement so the sticks get broken out now and then.

Wow, even the mods are tired of the Microtech game. Used to be known for quality, now they're known for unreliability.

Funny -- look at the original Whale Shark. Not a bad looking knife, clean lines based on a traditional utilitarian design. But they couldn't resist a redesign to rub it in that they, um, borrowed a design element. And if you know the story, did so maliciously. Bad enough they took the design in its entirety once, now they're ripping off their own original theft.

If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, and craps like a duck... People are getting really fed up with blatant ripoffs! At some point, you just get tired of the BS and start calling it like it is. So, a spade is just being called a spade here.

What part of a 'sub-frame lock' was newly designed by Kershaw? Plenty of knives before the 777 had the liner exposed rather than using a whole titanium scale to save weight (example: Spyderco PPT), and plenty had a lock bar insert (Umnumzaan, M4 Military, SR-1)

I'm not saying the W-S isn't a copy, just arguing against calling the sub-frame lock a new design. Or, which new feature of it am I overlooking?

That's kinda what I'm trying to get at. I don't really see too much orginality these days. Does this ugly knife look and function like another ugly knife on the market? Sure. But all traditionals look like any other traditional, Beckers look like Busse, Chris Reeves look like William and Henry, lock systems are all copies of each other, etc. You can go on and on. I think that our precious time and resources should be focused on the actual counterfeit market rather than who's non-counterfeit knife was ugliest first.

The 0777 took it a tad further. Hope that helps explaining the difference. It's patent pending at the moment.

+1 to the power of 10. I can not believe the bias on some of these threads. Some people will take any opporitunity to hijack a thread and fully rip on any knife, knife feature or knife manufacturer that they do not like or disagree with. Its a free country, if you do not like any of the above do not buy the knife of support the company; its that easy. Who is to say that the 0777 prototype wasnt ripped off from Microtech in the first place? Maybe Kershaw should have been on the ball and got their product to market first. At least Microtech doesnt market their "tactical" knives under a differant name, and at least Microtech is an American owned company. I will tell you one more thing; ripp on Microtech as much as you want; you will never ever ever in a million trillion years see a Microtech in the sporting goods department at Walmart.

The knife industry is a very small, intimate group. There are leaders within the industry and those that follow along with what's trending. The industry and it's enthusiasts as a whole are quite protective of originality, technology, and advancements. Instead of seeing things in general, you need to dive into the details and look to understand, especially prior to posting on this kind of subject. It will keep you from sounding...new.

As to the calling the mods trolls, and telling us to get a grip, step back and try to gain insight instead of stating an opinion that is off base.

Oh...I see you have no idea how business practices work.

Wow, where to start with this one...sheesh.
Who is to say that the 0777 prototype wasnt ripped off from Microtech in the first place?

Wow. I am actually at a loss for words right now....

Wow, you're very uninformed. And speaking of bias, you need to look in the mirror.

Other than that just wow.

C'mon guys, stop talking about Microtech. You know they aren't on the approved topic list here in Welk's Kershaw sub forum... oh, wait.

But Microtech steals designs. Next thing you know, Marfione will probably steal Kershaw's ball bearing system... oh, wait.

Well, maybe they'll steal Kershaw's intregral frame lock... oh, wait.
