Mike Alsdorf Knives

Mikeymoto- Those look great. Great pictures. Normaly when you order you can choose between 440C and CPM154CM.

Are all the blades flush in all 3 positions?

Thanks. They're darn close all I can spot is in that last photo of the teardrop Jack, slightly not flush closed. I didn't ask for 440C but I have other knives with that steel and it works great for me. I did ask for the mammoth, clip and coping blades, and extended springs.

The only Alsdorf I have with micarta is an interframe; the two jacks posted in this thread recently have really turned me on to the micarta and I'll probably have to get one. Droool.

Mike's knives are incredible. I carry my doctor's knife to the office almost every day.

I would love to see Mike start making some larger knives.

I ordered one of Mike's knives earlier this week and it will be here after the holidays. Here is a pic from his website. I specified 154 over his usual 440C but the knife will be the same. I intend to carry it and replace my Vic SAK Cadet, which is the knife I carry when wearing dress pants. We are a believer that if you like something a lot you - buy a second one. But, the Slimline Trapper in Ivory Micarta is really speaking to me. I suspect that I will be ordering another knife from Mike.

I really like those single blade jacks of Mike's. Like you stated, what a perfect dress pants EDC. Congrats on getting one!:thumbup:

Would someone mind posting the blade length for the peanut, teardrop jack, doctor & slimline trapper?

Thanks,
David

Yep, I carry my doctor's knife to the office nearly every day. It's perfect for everything I need and I hardly know it's there.

IMO, he'll always be a regional sensation. "no international sales or shipping". Kinda hard to establish a world-wide reputation like that. Anybody know if he had bad experiences, or just a charter member of the flat earth society?

I know that plenty of knifemakers are cautious about overseas sales due to various knife laws and my guess is that Mike just doesn't want to bother.

Nevertheless, I hardly think that selling everywhere in the United States makes someone just a regional sensation. And I think your other implications are way out of line.

Mike is a fine man to deal with, I fully intend to buy more from him and would recommend him to anyone.

redbike,

We all understand how frustrating it can be not to be able to have access to the makers or knives we may wish to, but this thread, and more importantly, this forum, is not the place to bash makers or hash our their personal business practices.

Please take the issue up with the maker directly or perhaps you may ask a forum friend to assist you with purchase and shipping of a knife you are interested in.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Well, my knife arrived today and I do love it. Mike's Teardrop Jack is exactly what I was hoping for. It was a pleasure dealing with Mike and I have hopped back on to his list, this time for a Slimline Trapper.

I just received this today. This is my first custom and it's everything I thought it would be :D. The F&F is perfect and it's a great sized knife! Thanks Mike!

Looks great, congrats on your new custom a very good choice. My first custom was also a teardrop jack by Mike, though it cost me much more than his usual price, since he does not ship outside the USA, but no regrets whatsoever it is a keeper for life. It's the one on top in the photo.

Gosh, I really prefer the lines of those tear drop jacks to the slimline trapper. I have medium sized hands and generally like a 3.5" min closed knife. Any thoughts/experiences on the handle size of the tear drop for general EDC duties?

Adam, I carry my Alsdorf doctor's pattern all the time and as best I can tell the size of it is the same as the teardrop.

I have normal size hands and it works great for everyday stuff. If I was cutting up a bunch of boxes I would probably use something larger, but the Alsdorf could easily handle it.

Mike's knives are very well made and a pleasure to use.

Hi Adam, it works for me very well, I also have medium size hands and the teardrop suits just fine.
