Wow, this is a sweet knife. Its my fourth one from Mike and I have to say my favorite. Since carrying slipjoints over the last six years or so Mikes knives have occupied my pocket more than any other.
I originally wanted the knife in amber jigged stag. Mike couldnt source large enough pieces and found this Shetland jigged bone in his shop and thought it would look nice. At first I was hesitant, but I trusted Mikes opinion and we went forward. Before this knife I wasnt a huge bone fan. Ive had some nice bone knives but this one has changed my mind on bone. Its nice.
I like Mikes clean work and precision. Mikes excellent edge is at 20 degrees and so easy to keep razor sharp with my Sharpmaker. To me, Mikes knives are perfect for office duty. And this new trapper is so thin and light I can hardly feel it in my slacks.
Bone trapper: 44 grams / 1.55 ounces
Ivory paper micarta trapper: 60 grams / 2.1 ounces
Since using Mikes knives Ive become a big fan of the 440C steel. I have never had any issues with corrosion and it holds a super edge for me.
My other knives from Mike (including the ivory micarta trapper) are mirror polished. I found that finish great in handling fine scratches on the blade. But, the finger prints sure do show up on the mirror polish. The satin finish on the new bone trapper does a good job at hiding the prints.
The shape of the handle feels really good in the hand
especially since there isnt a second blade folded up and taking away from the ergonomics.
For comparison I took some photos of Mikes Wharncliffe trapper. This has been my main carry knife for the last few years.
The last thing I would like to say about Mikes work is the value. The price to quality ratio is outstanding. If you are on the fence about ordering one
go for it. As a repeat customer I can say with confidence that you wont be disappointed.
Thank you Mike!
These trappers are the same size
just over 3 ½ inches closed. Its just the angle of the photos that makes one look bigger.
