Mike Turber banned by Reed Exhibitions

People, let's avoid the personal attacks here. I'm sure that Mr. Bryan has heard his share of lawyer jokes over the years.

Focus, please, on the issues at hand.

Chuck, if, with my post criticizing his grammar, i started the attacks and lawyer jokes im sorry, if you look at my 700+ posts over the last year or so, youll see i have never ONCE attacked a single member of BF, but, thats the point, isnt it? He is NOT a BF member, he is here soley for his own purposes, ostensibly his goal here is to allow his client to continue to sell and promote the sale of knockoffs, uhhh, excuse me, alleged knockoffs. :) If he were a BF member here in good faith, yes, by all means, attacks are uncalled for, but as it stands, if he gets insulted, well, he pretty much deserves it i think, after all, he does get paid the big bucks. :)

I don't mean to point fingers at anyone. I just sort of picked up a bit of a general negative drift.

Let us also bear in mind that this is probably Mr. Bryan's first exposure to the "knife enthusiasts community." We'd certainly like it to be an overall positive experience. We'd like him to come away saying, "Many of them disagreed with me and my client, but they were civil about it. They were firm in their convictions, but I have to respect them for that because they gave me nothing to disrespect."

Maybe Mr. Bryan will even find his own interest in good knives peaked by his experiences here?

Chuck, you're an optimist. I have no respect for Joy Enterprises and will not be a hypocrite. As far as Mr. Bryan is concerned, if he wants to stick around and take part as a regular member, I have no problem with that. That way he can learn why the company he represents is so poorly thought of around these parts.

Since he only came here to stir up bad feelings toward a long-time -- the longest-time! -- Bladeforums member, he's .. just .. a .. troll.

 Shouldn't this be in GBU or Community, anyway?

It's even better than a grammatical typo on a forum! Read the individual's bio., posted by Ron Andersen's link....Said individual even has a typo on his web site! ROTFLMFAO!:D ! He teaches "Trail Lawyers"....gotdarn...freakin' TRAIL LAWYERS. I guess he teaches them to follow the trail of blood from an accident scene!!  :barf: :barf: :barf:

(Anyone who figured out I'm not a big lawyer fan, is probably sharper than said TRAIL LAWYER!);)

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!!

Ya know Joy Enterprises peddles cheap clones -- maybe their lawyer's a cheap clone, too

not for nuthin...
Webmasters are responsible for website text... not the lawyers...
Let's hate them for the right reasons okay? LOL

With respect, fella's, let's not get BFC slapped with a suit as well.

At this point, the merits of the case are for the courts to decide. Public commentary aside, let's not put the site as a whole in the sights of the sharks. No matter what our views are on the two parties, the fact remains that someone felt harmed enough to "lawyer up". Where it ends up isn't for us to decide - that's for the jury.

Does Mike need any kind of assistance with this? I'm not a lawyer of course...just hoping that we can rally 'round our founder...

I'd be sure to put in a few bucks, since some of my designs are the ones Mike is trying to defend. I am poor, but I could do a little to help.

Its really great that he is defending those counterfeit rippoff knifemakers. I hope they pay him a lot of money and then go broke!!! :( :p :(

This public airing is causing Joy to lose customers? You will have a difficult time proving that, Mr. Bryan.

This enthusiast forum is archived since it's inception. Go use the Search function and see how many threads or comments you can find that mention Fury, Master, or any other "aka" for Joy Enterprises in a positive light. If you find one, I'll eat my shoe. Trust me, you have no customers to lose here.

Just to make my above statements clear, they represent my opinions and are not meant to represent the views of BladeForums, it's owners, administrators or moderators.

The intent of this lawyer is not to sue Mr. Turber over any percieved wrong against Joy. He has posted here knowing nothing about knife quality or this community. On the face of this it appears to be a stupid and useless thing to do. A reputable (and honest)lawyer would have done some research and concluded that there is no legitimate case. But joy has money. More than Mr. Turber. We know that this is the God that most lawyers and polititians worship. All he has to do is bring Mr. Turber to court and reduce him to bankruptcy. He knows that Mr. Turber is morally right but it isn't important. He belongs to Joy for the moment and all he has to do is drive Mr. Turber into the ground with a lengthy legal battle which Joy can afford and Mike cannot. It is a simple and effective tactic. He is doing his job well. This is all Joy wants to happen. This lawyer will not respond to my reply except perhaps to bluster a bit, but he cannot say that I am wrong.
Joy knives are crap. They are dangerous and could cost someone their life someday if they rely on one at a critical moment. They are going to get sued for it and they will lose.

If Mr. Bryan really wants to arm himself with information, he should forget all the propognada joy has filled his head with and simply take a few hours or days to surf this wonderful forum. He will find a wealth of information, most of it showing his case is not ligitimate. He will find pictures of factory and custom knives in which the designs appear identical to some of the knives Joy is currently selling. This is of course, in my view, as I have looked at pictures of Joy knives and found them to be identical in design to others I have seen. I applaud Mike for his efforts, but at the same time, feel Mike sometimes pushes too hard at the wrong times. Tact has never been his strong suit. I still believe he is definately morally right in this situation, and in the end, pray that it all turns out well for the knife community as a whole.

Gentlebeings, read the filing and give it a moment's thought before you get all excited. If a court were convinced that every claim is 100% true the damages awarded would be trivial. Sheesh, if you could get money because somebody yelled at you at a knife show and insulted you on the net, none of us would have to work for a living. That is why it hasn't been served. (Anybody who could spend weeks not finding Mike Turber would have to be wearing a blindfold, earplugs, and have his pants superglued to his chair.) It's a nuisance suit; it will never be served and I have doubts whether it was even filed.

If it ever is served (by a flying pig who has just come from ice skating in Heck in celebration of the Red Sox winning the Series), then Mike will unleash his lawyers on these dorks and they'll chop the dorks to mincemeat.

Standard disclaimer: I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. I am a dork with a modem and he who gets his legal advice from forums on the net has a bunch of dorks for a law firm.

I confess that Golnick is right and I apologize to all of the members of the "knife enthusiasts community". Expensive, custom made knives are a subject I know nothing about, other than the little I have read here. The dispute between my clients and Mr. Turber should not have ever been mentioned here, and was only because of some of the remarks Mr. Turber posted which, or so we claim, were defamatory. The lawsuit is filed, sooner or later Mr. Turber will get served, and it will then be a matter for a judge and jury to decide.

It appears that almost all of you are legitimate members of that community referred to by Golnick, and I clearly am not a member of that community. You have valid opinions about custom knives and I am certainly not qualified to debate those opinions with you as you know much more about it than I. I do apologize to the legitimate members of this community for not taking more time to understand your interests.

As for the lawsuit, I'll let it play out in the court system. The posts that I have put on your forum did not have anything to do with the perception that lawyers do things just for dollars. Most lawyers are fairly nice people. Joy Enterprises hasn't asked me to post anything here and I haven't charged Joy anything for posting here. I have known the principals of Joy for many years; they are some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. They take care of their employees more generously than any employers I have ever met. I feel badly for them that they have been accused of things, and not by any of you, that I believe I can prove were untrue. I believe they were wronged and I want to right that wrong. I gather that their end of the knife business is something totally different from the segment of the market that most of you deal in, and I did not know that when I made the earlier posts.

If there are any products sold by Joy that any of you have covered by designs, please bring it to their attention. They pay a lot of knives from factories abroad and try not to buy anything that should be protected; on several occasions, a legitimate designer has pointed out to them that a particular design was the property of the designer, and Joy has either quite carrying the design or made financial arrangements with the designer. If any of you contact them and have a legitimate beef, they will correct it.

As to the question between the two knives involved in the original post, Joy has a design sheet from a Mr. Tan. I have never seen any design specs on the competing product. I have been in contact with Mr. Winch, and I do not believe there is anything on paper, nor do I believe the two products are identical. Both knives are apparently made in the same factory, and from what you guys have posted, I doubt that either would be something members of your community consider to be high quality and custom.

As a non-member of your community, I apologize again for taking the time to understand your interests and will butt out of your boards, unless someone asks me for information or some reply.

And by the way, did you hear the one about the lawyer, the priest and the minister trapped on an island, surrounded by sharks?
