I confess that Golnick is right and I apologize to all of the members of the "knife enthusiasts community". Expensive, custom made knives are a subject I know nothing about, other than the little I have read here. The dispute between my clients and Mr. Turber should not have ever been mentioned here, and was only because of some of the remarks Mr. Turber posted which, or so we claim, were defamatory. The lawsuit is filed, sooner or later Mr. Turber will get served, and it will then be a matter for a judge and jury to decide.
It appears that almost all of you are legitimate members of that community referred to by Golnick, and I clearly am not a member of that community. You have valid opinions about custom knives and I am certainly not qualified to debate those opinions with you as you know much more about it than I. I do apologize to the legitimate members of this community for not taking more time to understand your interests.
As for the lawsuit, I'll let it play out in the court system. The posts that I have put on your forum did not have anything to do with the perception that lawyers do things just for dollars. Most lawyers are fairly nice people. Joy Enterprises hasn't asked me to post anything here and I haven't charged Joy anything for posting here. I have known the principals of Joy for many years; they are some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. They take care of their employees more generously than any employers I have ever met. I feel badly for them that they have been accused of things, and not by any of you, that I believe I can prove were untrue. I believe they were wronged and I want to right that wrong. I gather that their end of the knife business is something totally different from the segment of the market that most of you deal in, and I did not know that when I made the earlier posts.
If there are any products sold by Joy that any of you have covered by designs, please bring it to their attention. They pay a lot of knives from factories abroad and try not to buy anything that should be protected; on several occasions, a legitimate designer has pointed out to them that a particular design was the property of the designer, and Joy has either quite carrying the design or made financial arrangements with the designer. If any of you contact them and have a legitimate beef, they will correct it.
As to the question between the two knives involved in the original post, Joy has a design sheet from a Mr. Tan. I have never seen any design specs on the competing product. I have been in contact with Mr. Winch, and I do not believe there is anything on paper, nor do I believe the two products are identical. Both knives are apparently made in the same factory, and from what you guys have posted, I doubt that either would be something members of your community consider to be high quality and custom.
As a non-member of your community, I apologize again for taking the time to understand your interests and will butt out of your boards, unless someone asks me for information or some reply.
And by the way, did you hear the one about the lawyer, the priest and the minister trapped on an island, surrounded by sharks?
