Military, tip up option?

Im pretty sure one reason they choose not to do it is because the steel liners do not go all the way to the lanyard hole end of the knife. Doing that to allow the tapped holes would increase the weight of the knife. One of the military’s features is that it is relatively light for its size.

Not to mention a re-design of the clip. Which probably wouldnt be that big of a deal, but would add additional cost.

No one should "have" to modify there military. Disagree with me if you like, but the PM2 has the tip up option. Based on that, I would surmise that the Military machinery and assembly line is not fitted to drill the other end of the scales. Seems like a simple fix? Well changing things out and reconfiguring a line is costly and to what end does it benefit the companies bottom line? To me it seems like a simple cost vs revenue situation. People keep buying the military regardless of the tip up option, the whole "well the washers would get dirty" is bs and total crap. They COULD do it, they don't need to. It would take re-doing there current clip association on the military like the PM2 and re-doing there lineup, if the consumer can do it, a big company surely can....they chose not to. I am not bashing Spyderco, I own several Militarys and PM's. I just think all this modification by the end user is unnecessary and should be and should have already been done by the company itself....its a few screw holes. Over a decade I have no idea how many threads have centered around this or threads that have tailed into this. Spyderco can do it.....they chose not to. I am a HUGE Spydie fan, just hate the BS of how it "should be" not how "the consumer wants options".

I had a nice Benchmade Griptillian G10, I sold it because it was tip up only and there are no options and modifying it would completly screw up the knife. A lot of aftermarket scale makers dont and wont make a tip down option, bladescales comes to mind. Lots of knife makers dont offer any options for tip down carry in their lineup. I wont buy them.
At least most spydercos give you options.

You gotta remember, once you buy a Spyderco (or any other brand) knife it becomes your knife. You can do with it whatever you want to. So if you modify it to suit your needs, it's all good. The knife maker may not honor the warranty after you modify it but it's still your knife.

I bought a Military just to own one. I never intended to carry it. The tip-down only design would have prevented me from buying the Military if I had intended to carry it. Tip-down only is a deal breaker for me in a user knife.

Necro ish! Anyone think this custom method would work on a Microtech Socom Elite on the lanyard hole? It’s my only hiccup with it.
