Mini Hammer-In

You guys are getting me a bit worried: food so spicy it causes flaming farts, guys with missing feet, blade swinging/cutting contests....to say nothing of multiple rip-snorting snorers. I guess I better bring my crash helmet, chain mail, steel toed boots and ear muffs!

David, Plaistow looks to be an hour or so (even less if I could go directly across the river) from my folks in Merrimack. Would you be up for a visit?

Where are the rest of you guys located? Any of you up for a visit too? You don't want to let IG have all the fun/burden do you???

I'd love to but my tiny little body and arms are usually too intimidating.....

I did, however, just get an edgepro sharpener, so want to see what kind rope I can cut with a hair-whittling sharp blade.

No problem. But it looks like you will be playing with yourself, I mean playing by yourself. HEHEHEHEHE!!

Either no one makes big knives anymore, or I am just too much of a man to compete against. I think its the latter. Maybe Louis can compete with one of his hawks....i'd love to see one on the rope cutting.

If I get the chance to finish that chopper I was working on (And havent touched since:rolleyes::D) at the last one, I'll take a few swings.

David, you hit it on the nail for me. If you lay the rope down on the ground I can have a go at it with my little knife. A few back and forth strokes should do. As I see a lot of stroking smilies used in these parts, it should fit right in.

How long have you been hanging around here??? An how many knives have you completed????:jerkit::confused::p

I've been too busy trying to keep you from getting arrested every time you decide to chase one of your neighbors down the street with a hammer.(No, this is not a joke or exageration!!):jerkit:

Besides, I'm a busy little beaver at other things. Don't be jealous.:D

IG, should I UPS some of my "special" Mesquite so the guys can try it out?

Hey Robert,

I'd very much like to know more about your mesquite. I've been trying to work up some keawe wood (it's a mesquite) and would love to know how/what you're doing and see/try some of it! Or are you talking about something else?

Thanks, Phil

Hi IG, and friends,

I'm glad the blower made it there OK. All OK here in Hawaii. Our school year is ending. Just finished giving my last high school BS classes a couple of days ago. My family's getting ready to move into slightly more spacious digs. Leaving for mainland in less than 3 weeks. Ordering some steel from Kelly Cupples, so should have some stuff to do a few billets up with. Haven't ordered propane hookup from Darren Ellis yet, as he's away at Blade in Hotlanta. Got a 5 1/2" post vise off of eBay waiting for me to pick up in MA when I get there. Already have an anvil stashed at my folks in NH.

Trying to round up a coal forge and blower too, know of any I could buy...or borrow???

I'm hoping to round up some other stuff for my little make shift NH shop. Anyone know of, or got any of this stuff cheap????
  • drill press
  • stone, belt and disc grinders
  • OA, propane, map torches
  • AC/DC arc welder
  • band saw
  • electro-chem etcher
  • heat treat stuff: especially quench tank and anneal bucket
  • lost wax casting stuff: burnout oven, vacuum caster, centrifugal caster
Wish me luck.

See you all soon, Phil
