Mod, supermod changes and more.

Wow. Some people do not have the proper mindset for site wide moderator duties- not a bad thing, just how it goes. Elliot and Gus, however, are not those people. There have been a bunch of good suggestions in this thread, but the site will be lessened without them.

Charlie Mike would make a good fit, he's been through a lot, the job would benefit both him and this site. He is liked by many, enjoys knives too.

So very true!!! I once thought I might make a good Mod but quickly dismissed the idea. I just do not have the appropriate mindset to moderate this place, it takes a person the caliber of Blues and Gus to keep a place like this straight.

Someone mentioned Charlie Mike, he would be a great Mod. He has the devotion to BFC, knowledge and love of knives and life experiences that make him an ideal person to moderate especially the cove areas!!

My 2 cents worth, I think Spketch and Kelma would make good MODs.
RevDevil gets my vote for "Super-Duper" MOD!

I have seen plenty of examples where moderators participate in threads, get a bit bent, then put their mod hats on. I have been in threads where mods break their own rules, for their own purposes. For those complaining about certain mods, the easiest thing to do is when you see THAT mod in a thread, abandon it at THAT mods first post. If you are interested in more conversation about a subject, take it off line. Problem solved. After all, we are only talking about knives here, such a tiny little piece of the world that none of my friends even know this place exists.

No doubt that knarfeng and Peregrin would make great super mods if they could avoid burnout. They keep a steady hand on the tiller in the traditional subforum and have been doing a great job for some time guiding things along. So, you can't have them.

All kidding aside, I think that anyone that gets the super mod appointment should be required to spend thirty days under the aegis of Esav Benjamin. I don't recall a misstep by him, a loss of temper (maybe a bit prickly when provoked) or patience, and always even handed. He gives sufficient warning when things are going astray, and I don't recall (and at this point wouldn't believe) him ever making a threatening post for his own benefit using his position as a super mod.

I think Guyon and Sheldon are excellent choices. I think Knarfeng and Peregrin would be good candidates as well.

Just wanted to reiterate this and add a couple names. Jaxx was mentioned in another thread and I regret that I didn't think to include him at the time. He'd be a great addition as Super. Also wanna mirror my suggestion here for Codger_64 to be added to the PA. We're down to 1 active mod there most of the time, and while nobody likes everybody over there, I think Codger is about as balanced as it gets.

Also wanted to thank some of you again for the props. That said, I've went ahead and preemptively declined consideration. Just not something I wanna do right now and the others I listed would no doubt be better choices all around. I am digging the compliments though, so feel free to continue on that front. :D

Kiah, if I could get Paz to sing at your installation as moderator, wouldja take the job? :D

Pull that off and I might mod Political.

(I finally managed to work Maynard into Tech Support. TR should be proud. :p)

I agree with all suggestions so far, but would like to ad codger_64 would be a excellent choice also.

You just want to watch the world burn don't you:p

A bit. But I'm not alone in thinking Charlie Mike would be a good SuperMod and DB731 would funny as heck.

How can a Mod. spend 70% > of their time posting in "adult" areas of the forum as a friend or buddy and then shift into general areas of the forums without being tainted. Or without pressure and influence of friendship? THEY CANNOT...

^^^THIS

Whoever gets picked, I hope they are someone who spends more time discussing knives than discussing other members they don't like...

philllll, I agree that any Super needs to know the various boards, the rules, and truly be engaged in the hobby. That said, you clearly have hurt feelings about your reception elsewhere. I get that, and I sympathize to a degree. But I fail to see why you continue to go there and post in the fashion you do. In real life, do you go to places where you're uncomfortable or don't fit in and make a scene? If not, why should a social scene on the Internet be any different? If you're posting just to get a rise, then you're trolling, no matter how you rationalize it. Multiple sides to every situation, right?

Guyon, I don't think this thread is the proper place to have that conversation. If you actually want my answer, feel free to take it to PM.

I too think Jaxx, Codger_64, MP and Guyon would be great choices for elevation.
I also think Kiah's preemptive declining supermod appointment should be ignored; just change his colour without permission Spark :)

While there is something to be said for enthusiasm and humor I think in the current circumstances we need balance and wisdom more.

You're probably right, but agendas are still agendas, and when you take an implicit public swipe at others, don't be surprised if you are rationally and publicly questioned about the basis.

ETA: Sorry for the thread drift, folks. philllll is right about context and timing. Back to the regularly scheduled program...

Indeed.

I supported Kiah's recommendation from the get-go... but if he just doesn't want to deal with being a supermod, I totally understand that. Hating one's job and feeling forced into it under stress makes for resentment, very poor performance and big problems, every single time. Especially when that "job" is an unpaid position.

... DB731 would funny as heck.

"Funny" (if indeed you think repeatedly posting pics of sex toys for no particular reason is "funny", in which case you'd be in a very small minority) is not a requirement for herding these cats. If you think you're being "funny" by repeatedly nominating DB731 for a position of responsibility, I assure you - that's not doing you or him/her any favors.

Tech Support is not the place for "being funny". This is actually a pretty serious topic, brought up by the forum owner, which deserves valid and thoughtful input. Coming decisions made by Spark, perhaps based partly on opinions and discourse expressed in this thread, will affect the entire forum and everyone who enjoys it for months and years to come. As someone who is happy and grateful to both enjoy this community overall, and also earn part of my living here by promoting and selling the knives I make, I don't think it's a joking matter at all.

If you want to be "funny", post in Whine & Cheese. That's what it's there for, and it works quite well for that purpose.
