Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Great comparison photos. It's amazing what a big difference it makes when the sharp, square corners and edges are "ergonomically" blended down.
Thanks! It's true, there is a huge difference just knocking the corners off.

That looks fantastic, Mark. Reminds of some of the vintage German-made Sodbusters.
Thanks Shawn. I thought the same thing. Just like the older wood handled German Sodbusters.

That looks really nice! I bet you could still have the benefits of the beefier slabs of micarta while still have some contouring (and a nicer bird's eye pivot) if you concentrated on slimming at the corners and the pivot area and only slightly blending the top and bottom sides and flats. It wouldn't look as sleek, I think, but it might still provide the best of both. It might even come out looking a bit like some barlow handles, where there is a swell from the bolster back to the butt.
Thanks Josh. That's a good idea, I may have to try that!

When you do that, are you typically working from end to end on one edge of the handle, then switch to another edge or are you going across the top of the handle rolling from edge to edge? It’s hard to describe what I’m getting at, but hopefully it made sense.
Yes, I work from end to end on one edge, then switch to another edge, trying to never touch the liners, just work right up to them. That's the hard part, getting right up to the liners without actually touching them. Especially on the top end near the pivot. You can see where I just touched the liner in the third pic, by the pivot, on the left side.

The sodbuster looks great Mark Ramrodmb Ramrodmb I'd like to find one cheap enough for myself and do the same. I actually have been considering grabbing one of the orange delrin and recovering. For now though I'm working on a Case Barlow. Next up is a NOS Camillus Camco 551 barlow, secondary blade delete and recover.

Bought this RR small stockman in a hurry and didn't notice that the clip blade was too low to reach the nick easily. Five minutes with an old Dremel 5/8" sanding drum in a drill press took care of that.

cmon some one delete the coping on the 92!

 Not me! I use mine too much.

But, I do have two other micarta 92s that are not being used... hmmmm.

I can certainly appreciate a single blade jack ~ I’ve deleted the utility blade on several TL-29s. However, the most recent one I did, I kept that blade. And am very glad I did. That second TL/29 blade is so useful, from opening paint cans, wiring up an electrical outlet, cutting gnarly stuff to save your main blade’s edge, even for scraping wood. It’s a genius designed blade.View attachment 1211901 Newer TL-29 I redid in bone.^View attachment 1211900The jack was a TL-29...
From what I’ve seen of the Eureka jack, I think *I* would regret deleting the coping blade.

BUT, you have more than one, and it’s yours, so you should do what makes you happy.

Love the smoothing you guys have done on your Bull Nose handles. I bought a 21 Bull Buster in orange delrin thinking I could tear it down and rehandle in elk, bone, or maybe bocote. Just haven’t had the guts to break apart a new GEC. I know Glennbad does it, and I did it with a big Case Soddie ( bought it because the black plastic scales were already broken), View attachment 1211896 Large Case Sodbuster with elk. That stockman is a Camillus I rehandled in smooth elk. I just need to work up the nerve to do it to a new GEC.
The other thing is that I love the feel of the smooth delrin in my hand-lol.View attachment 1211897 Here’s a little Klein that I rehandled in elk...View attachment 1211898

Dang, your mods are nice looking. I have 4 or 5 of the electrician knives that I scrounged up, thinking I would turn them into single blades... but I agree that the second blade is hugely useful. I do have one knife that has the second blade broken in half, so I think I will try to mod it. I also have an elk shed that my sister gave me 25 years ago, or so. I might try to cut some off of it and put on the newly modded knife.

well done! As easy as it is to scoff at delrin as cheap and/or unattractive, it holds up well as a useful handle material.

Finished up the Case Barlow today. It's very apparent that this is going to be more addicting than actually buying new knives. Also going to be tough to not keep everything I recover.

Thanks a lot Jason! The recover on your Case looks amazing. Funny you mention working on knives being addicting, even more than buying new knives. I totally agree. Soon you'll find your buying new knives just to work on! As well as buying old ones to rehab. Looks like you have a natural talent for it judging by the excellent job on the Case Barlow. I think you made the right call by keeping it as well. Enjoy yourself and don't forget to show us pics along the way.:thumbsup:

Thanks Jeff. Love the mods and re-handles you've already done! Don't worry about doing it to a GEC, they are just the same as anything else and you'd be just fine. I totally agree about liking the Delrin. I also enjoy the feel of the smooth Delrin in hand, as well as actually loving the color of the Orange Delrin GEC uses.
Keep up the good work, I enjoy seeing your reworks.

Here's the first GEC I deleted a blade on. Now I want to mod the Spey blade into a Zulu Spear and rebuild it, just haven't got around to it yet.

Here's the first 2 TL-29s I did. Back when you could buy TL-29s in great shape for less than $10. Glad I stocked up on a few, but wish I'd have bought more.:D Both of my sons each claimed one!

Jsdistin, hey I don't know what's up with that. When I come here I can see my pic and the smaller copy you made when responding to my post. Sometimes when I come on here to check pics I can't see them either, just a small box with an x in it and IMG in brackets. Sometimes I can see the pic. Have no idea what the difference is or if it's me or the administrators or the software or the roll I take pictures out of to post. But some of the people on here can see them, or at least they hit the like button like they can see them. Wish I could help you or tell you what the deal is, but sorry, I can't explain.

It's nothing we're consciously doing on this end. There might to be a problem with your hosting site or the websites software compatibility with it. Many of the regular members (not paying) use imgur, it seems to play well with the site. I use it myself.
Here's a good thread on it, How to: post pictures using Imgur (comprehensive).
