Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Nice work on that one, the ivory is nice and has some great grain to it!

Thanks man! I’m even more stoked than before with it. I got some 800 grit folded up and smoothed out the tang again and the some polishing paper/cloth from 3m maybe and used that as well and after a few thousand opening and closings it’s pretty damn smooth. My concern is lessened about it wearing the tang down or cutting such a groove in the spring that it would lose its snap. I think this is the one for a while.

Pic from yesterday but these two just need to be posted in this thread as well...Jordan's TC to Beerlow mod (added crown lifter, new covers) and Glenn's Crown Lifter to Beerlow mod (new Barlow bolster, new covers)...absolutely outstanding work by these two masters:

The main blade tang or spring seem to have some heat treat issues where they grind together despite my sanding and nearly polishing both when I did both mods. Incidentally I’m looking for a couple cap lifter 15’s and a couple 2 blade clip point 77’s users preferred as I can’t pay secondary prices and would not be selling what I made. It’d be strictly personal use on my part and using multiple GEC knives for a mod becomes prohibitively expensive very quickly. So if you have any of those that need a good home and you’re not looking to turn a profit let me know please. I’d love to give this another go at some point in the near future.

Try the Want to Buy subforum. Some have good luck there.

Stayed up late and worked on this one a couple days ago. It was a 77 with bolsters on both ends. I got some ivory and wanted the end grain to be showing so I took the bolsters off the end. I wanted to make sure the back spring pin had more support than just the handle material to avoid cracking so I sanded down the bolster on the side where it would be pushing towards the cutout in the liner too keep the post in place and eliminate the cutout. I also tried spinning rivets instead of just pins so that on the pins the hold the covers to liners there is no outward force on the material to reduce the chance of cracks forming. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Edit: I almost forgot I had to shave off about 1/8th from the end since the ivory was a little short.
Really nice work.

I'm sure many of you remember my beloved Texas Jack.
A year ago I turned the misshapen pen looking secondary into a clip point which was the easiest thing to do, and I was satisfied with how it looked.

Over the past year of carrying and using it more than any other it has performed just fine, but I have always appreciated a sheeps foot secondary blade.
It's not important enough to me that I'd modify every secondary into a sheeps foot and I would not have done a thing to this blade had it come with a normal pen blade, but since I had already modified it I decided I'd like to go ahead and turn it into a sheeps foot.

Theres not a lot of room to do so, but I got it done without removing more than maybe 1/16 at the tip.

I've had this Case mini trapper for a couple of years, and haven't really carried it much at all. I thought I'd play with it a bit, to see if I could make it into something I'd be more likely to carry... The spey blade didn't please me much, so I changed the profile to be more of a spear point... sort of like the Eureka Jack has. The clip blade was begging for a change, as well, so I started working toward a lambfoot shape. I couldn't get a straight spine on it without messing up the nick, so it's got a little arch to it, sort of like a wharncliffe. The tip is more like a lambfoot.... so, I give you.. the mini trapper wharnfoot...:p
Now it is more like the jack knife style I like... nicks on the same side, with a spear main blade.

WHARNFOOT - I LIKE IT - great mod !! I modded the clip on a couple mini-trappers a while back ... the nail nick position on that Case clip blade sets up nicely for the wharncliffe mod as well. I did the blue one for a member, and he came up with the name "trappcliffe" - seems to fit --->

Sorry, one more - forgot about this one ... did this one for the same upstanding member who loves his wharncliffe's- this ones almost like a GEC Carver blade (as you can see I experimented with varying the modded blade length - I think I like the white one the best - not too stubby or too pointy) ...

Great mods! I agree on the length of the white one... but that Carhartt looks sweet! Double wharnies....
