I vote for jobillo! Nice wood, nice work.:thumbsup:

Sometimes the lighter woods are the way to go. As in the case of this 77, it's Macassar ebony.
Just as durable as Gabon ebony (if not more so) and maybe a bit more character.

BTW, the mod here is fairly subtle. Just a minor de-horning. (curved and rat-tailed bolsters, break liner edges, rounded blade spines and tangs) Smoothed for hand and pocket.

Those look awesome!

Those are the woods it should have had in the first place  More character now in my view.

That’s cool and a good way to get what they really wanted.

very nice work and choice of wood on both knives :thumbsup:
Thanks guys, I agree the wood choice was a good one, lots of chatoyance and character on some of the pieces.

very nice work... I have never seen that wood before. I like it a lot, judging those two samples. Does the wood darken a lot with use, I wonder?
It looks like it does but I’ve not used this wood before. I’ve looked up every wood I’ve used on this site and more, some say they darken and some don’t buy it seems to me that most or all of the ones I’ve used darken whether they say they do or not, maybe just from the dirt and oil’s getting deposited on the surface.

Ah...! So it's the same as Goncalo Alves.... that's the wood that Smith and Wesson used for grips on their revolvers for quite some time... maybe still do. It's a pretty wood. I don't remember anyone saying anything about their revolver handles darkening appreciably, so maybe it resists it better than cocobolo or rosewood. Good information... thanks.

Now you have the biggest beer scout on the block! Great job with that....
This old Queen of mine (bottom knife) might give it a run for its money, but the 86 is probably bigger... :)

I just hope mine stays the test of time, I did the heat treat with my flamethrower weed killer thing and tempered it in the oven. I’ve done it a couple times before and it seems to work pretty well. I was concerned about it getting hot enough under where I was holding with the pliers but it got so hot it dented the metal on both sides and the file skated even there so I think it’s good to go (I hope).

Those caplifters are huge, guys. You could open a beer jar with those things.

Boker one arm jack as I bought it, covers more squarish than I like, and didn't like the color.
I mean why buy it if I didn't like some of its features?o_O

To modify it of course!:D:thumbsup:
Rounded the edges and ends more with a file, sanded with 800 grit emory paper, and a few dunks in hot dark brown rit dye. I still wanted it to be red, just a darker more interesting red;)

YES! I like that a lot more. Looks way more ergonomic, and the red has some character now. Good job!

I finally got the stuff I needed to re-cover my RR VG-10 stockman. This is the one that comes with the stylish , cheesy aluminum covers, but I got it simply to see what it would look like, redone. The idea of a stockman in VG-10 was interesting, even if it had to come from China. I considered osage orange, and may still do that on another one, but I settled on good old traditional ebony. The screw heads were slightly sunken, but by the time I finished sanding, a couple of them are just slightly proud. I will probably go back and sink them a touch deeper, for appearance sake. I sanded it to 400 grit, and have (so far) not put any kind of oil finish on it. I probably won't, as I think the ebony will be oily enough to maintain the appearance without it.
Here are a few before and after pics....
