Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Nice! I have a current project with Lignum, it's interesting stuff to work with.

Thanks! Yeah, very hard stuff and an interesting crosshatch grain to it. I made little rivets to hold the covers on without having to peen the wood side and then countersunk the spring pin holes so the pin could expand without putting too much outward strain on the holes. Probably one of the most difficult materials I’ve worked with.

How’d you thin those blades? I feel like that’d be tricky.
I used an extremely course whetstone I laid the blade flat down on the stone and rubbed it back and forth until i could feel a bur and repeated on the other side doing this on several other stones to refine the finish before switching to 2000 grit sandpaper and then 3000 grit sandpaper.

Dremeled some fluting into the bolsters, not 100%satisfied with the results though. Also rounded them off some and softened the edges all around. I didn't get the line as crisp and straight as I wanted, I think I may try some emory paper around a dowel to fix it.

First time ever trying something like this. Still needs a little cleanup work, and I’m not sure if I’m done with the overall shape, but they definitely won’t be letting me into the spear carriers thread.

That's an improvement, if you ask me. Spears are fine, but in my book clip points have more uses. Great work.

Cool work- did you also put that lanyard hole in there? What did that knife start out as? Kind looks like a boker.

Thanks, its actually a Kershaw culpepper, the lanyard hole was there already however I did bevel the edges. Much like the Rough Rider Reserve line when the pictures was released online there was quite a few people not into the look of Kershaw's newest slipjoints. And like the RRR the single blade jack is the one that intrigued me, when I found that my local sporting goods store had them in stock I just had to give it a try. Its actually a really nice and well built knife imho. It has a very smooth action and good pull, almost the same as my Victorinox tinker. I keep saying in other threads, there's not many companies putting out large jack knives these days. Especially for under 30-50 bucks and at this quality. Here's a before pic

Still haven’t bothered to clean up my grinding, and the clipped portion really ought it have a little more profile work—it’s not one smooth curve like it should be—but it’s been in my pocket everyday.
