Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Poking around for a thread to show off this "Scagel", this one seemed appropriate!
Made for Dave Shirley of Northwoods fame, by Queen, the Scagels were an interesting and mostly well-made series! Dirk Potegier(sp?). known as Oupa, from down-under, took a two-blade apart, and made this wonderful single blade, with buttery Gabon Ebony handles, and a hammered silver shield! The blade is heavy, but well-ground, and the knife is snappy, but pinchable! All around, a nice carry!!:cool:Ebony Scagel 1.jpg Ebony Scagel 2.jpg Ebony Scagel 3.jpg Ebony Scagel 4.jpg

Very nice
I love the somewhat “primitive” flavor of it.

I started this one a while ago but haven’t had much time to work on it lately. It’s an old camco advertising knife with bottle opener. I’m recovering it with blue micarta and black micarta pivot collars.

Hopefully I can get back to it soon.

Always wanted to re-handle a SAK. Whilst I love the knives, I'm not 100% keen on the plastic scales. Anyway gave it a go using a flattish section of what I think is reindeer antler (could be elk) which I gleaned from a walking stick maker. The pins are decorative as the scales are epoxied on and seem to be holding very well. For a first attempt I'm very happy with the results. The knife is a SAK Camper. :)

I finally acquired another 71 Bullnose. This one is a user in red micarta. I didn't get it open until last night, but I hope to get it on the sander this afternoon, and maybe finish it up tonight or tomorrow. I'm thinking I'll do the full works on this one--slim the handle, birdseye the pivot, recontour the butt and take the drop point down to a spear. I'm especially looking forward to doing some higher grit hand sanding on the handle. The one thing I may hold off on is thinning down the blade. I'll see what happens once I get going.

Joshua, I can’t wait to see your finish work

Finished these up this morning. If you look close you’ll see that one of them has both a nickel silver and a brass liner. It came from the factory like that. Pretty interesting if you ask me.
Phenomenal, as always Jeff! Are those case single blade sowbellies?
