Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Now that’s a proper knife...

were you able to set a better spring tension while you had it apart? I heard the spring tension can be a little anemic.
Thank you.
I doubt a Proper can have a good action. They're great for people who are into modern knives but want to try something a little old-fashioned. The Shuffler and Roundhead are better modern traditionals but much harder to do covers for.

I picked up a ~100 year old Jack Knife in mother of pearl.

"Nuthin' a little epoxy wont fix" ;)

I used clear epoxy to fill in the chips and gaps along the edges.

I ground a tip back on the main blade, too. It's going in my pocket tomorrow.

And so its new life begins! Great job!

Thanks, everyone.
A few more pictures, now that I've got some daylight:

Always satisfying to see an old and neglected knife made purposeful once more. Loving that long, long pull too.
Here's my own efforts in a similar vein of late ( compliments to wrench136 wrench136 )

Made pointy once more, uneven edges filed back/sharpened, oh and a shiny new sheild. Fun two hours playing in the garage;)

That looks great! What did you use to polish the bone to look so glossy?

Very impressed gentleman! Great work, and the respect you’ve shown these old knifes, bringing them back to life is very admirable! Well done.:thumbsup:

Cheers Redsparrow, it's a nice slicer now and in my pocket today.

Thanks!

Smurf Poo and a rub of my old strop R8Shell. The bone wasn't my intended target as I didn't want to pretty this one up as it will live in my motorcycle jacket along with keys and change. When polishing back the shield I inlaid I managed to a accidentally polish a couple mm around it so after making some shiny it looked weird lol....

Yes there a very small but noticeable improvement of the universe when an old knife is put back into service!

I'ma guess blue. :D

Thanks for the info, ed_is_dead. I'm sure a few weeks in a jacket pocket with keys will knock the shine off.:thumbsup: I didn't want to use any polishing compound on the mother of pearl, in case it might stain or carry dirt from the brass. So I used one of those foam-backed manicure buffs for polishing nails. It worked pretty well to blend and polish where the pearl and epoxy meet.

Imagine papa smurf went hard on the beer and tacos:D:eek:

I was careful to look for an obvious tell between the pearl and the epoxy in your repair and its prettty damn good and that's a fab idea with the foam nail things. Ima gona Rob Edwin's when I get home.
I recently did something similar on a faux tortise shell covered scales and mixed some coloured dust in thinking it would blend visually better but I did not, you could see the repair moreso.
I think clear is the way to go as it allows the colour underneath to be seen:)
Mind you I'm getting semi decent at approximating the colour, texture and shape of jigged bone/stag with epoxy and hardwood dust mixed together. A Lewis spear point in stag I did recently was my best attempt so far.

Hi Wrench, it's performing well, a good working knife that's easy to sharpen and takes a sweet edge.
Bike wise traillies/dual purpose mostly but have street bikes also. Big Honda and Suzuki fan. You?

Nice inlay work! How hard was it to do that?

almost done now, ebony was surprisingly easy to work with and not what I imagined the wood consistency to be
