Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Do all these TL mods make my work go up or down in value??

Holy cow, I better up my game, I'm hearing footsteps behind me. :)

Lemmy, where did you get that butterscotch micarta? It is nice looking stuff.

Hey Brian -

The butterscotch Micarta is nice. After finishing and polish it sort of looks like delrin but already I'm seeing it will "age" nicely, almost like bone as the different layers of paper absorb oils. I ordered it from a guy on the great time/money wasting auction site. I can PM you the details.

Oh Glenn I wouldn't worry about me. I'm not quitting my dayjob. To do a mod that's vastly inferior to your work I took a full three days! lol

Camillus Cub Scout in amber stag bone. I still need to work on the bolsters and pivot pins but I think the bone has a beautiful color.

Say Cheese!!! is a common saying among fellow Electricians, at least locally, when one cuts/touches the Hot and Neutral wires you will hear that nice loud POP/BOOM followed by the blinding blue orb that occupies your vision for the next 20 to 30 seconds, hence the term "Say Cheese":D

Now you don't need to cut the two wires, simply touching them together with a metal object is suffice;) We refer to "Side Cutters" as Dike's, and I can't begin to count how many I've had suffer this very same fate.

I don't know of one Electrician that hasn't done this let alone once but MANY times, hey it's inevitable if your in the Electrical field.

So, yesterday while installing a new garbage disposal my Yellow "Day's Work" Spey suffered the "Say Cheese!!!" fate:(:grumpy:

The junction box was in a very tight spot as it always seems to be the case---ALWAYS!!! I couldn't get my wire stripper/cutter in the spot I needed and I only needed to bare back the 12ga wire a little bit---well my Spey is now more of a Spear than a Spey:o I guess I was lucky I didn't blow a chunk out of the blade versus the Spey's back hump.

I feel the blade turned out well, but I'm in the minority that really likes the Spey blade and am a bit saddened it's not a true Spey blade any longer.

Here it is next to a very precious single blade Spey gifted me along with a couple of Dike's that have suffered the same fate.

Needless to say the LOUD boom cause a knee jerk reaction and I struck the sinks P-trap rather hard with my forehead:thumbup:

Well, I'm glad it was the knife that took the jolt and not you!! Nice repair, Paul! Nothing beats good, honest wear and use!

Found this old winchester at a barn sale in NH. totally trashed and the broken, i managed to salvage part of the main blade. reground and filled the blade cavity with epoxy. great little carver now.

Been there. Done that. Though in our outfit, whoever did it earned the name of "Flash" for the rest of the day, instead of the "Say Cheese" line. Friend of mine didn't use "lock out. Tag out" and hit a 440 line one time. There was more than a small hole in the tool and we called him Flash for a couple of weeks.

Nice job on restoring the blade. I actually like the new shape better than the old.

@ Dan and jwolf90, Thanks guys:thumbup:

That term is common here as well Frank and what company doesn't have a "Sparky" workin for them:D We have one with "Sparky" on the door of his F-250:thumbup:

I don't work for the Company anymore but still have many friends there, my Brother is the Warehouse Manager---I swear he knows more than some of the guy's in the field. It's a small firm but they do some maintenance for the famed "Bobcat Company"

I love commercial/industrial electrical say versus wiring a house with Romex;)

Thank you for the restoration compliment as well:thumbup:

I just got this in the mail today and dropped it in my pocket. A gift from my knifemaker friend J W Bensinger. The blades are all new, made by Jim many moons ago. Jim usually makes larger fixed blade knives, but I guess this one was just a fun little project. A great solid knife and sharp as a razor!

Very cool gift Phil that would have went right into my pocket as well, it looks like it's ground to cut very well.

Evan, you've outdone yourself (in my opinion)!

I know that some people may think that the bolster stamp is possibly narcissistic, but my family is very proud of our history, and I wanted something like this to pass on to my daughter some day. Evan knocked it clear out of the park(e)!

It was Evan's idea to round the bolsters and leave the edges of the bone covers raised at the forward end, which is a feature often seen on older Barlows. I love it! I do believe too that this is the first Esnyx custom mod to feature sawcut bone!

(I know I've already shown this, but it really belongs in this thread too.)

This was a 6318 Mini Stockman, but a broken spring had rendered it unusable. Presto chango, and voila! It is now a 6318 slimline single blade, ready for duty sir!
