Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

WOW, that's sweet and, barring the carving, looks relatively easy if you have the material. Much easier than cutting and pinning scales I think on a slippie. Looks awesome, I'll have to go shed hunting!

Here's my first try at a modified knife. Started with a Camillus TL29 and made the bolsters with some brass pipe fittings and my old jeans turned into micarta. Not the best f&f but I enjoyed putting it together!

Awesome job!

Really cool, I'm modding one of mine with some homemade denim right now too. Should be finished up this weekend, I'll post some pics.

Thats a really clean and cool knife! I love scrounging for parts for my knife making. Everywhere I go I wonder 'Could I make a bolster out of that? Would that make a cool shield inlay?' I like the look of this a lot, it's got that clean and blocky bolster and then the natural and smooth micarta.

Can you sand sunbright acrylic without losing the the glow in dark to give my hands something to hold on to? And how would I go about doing this? And is it possable to remove the old yellow mark from the blade to make this one perfect

You could always stipple it with a soldering iron, just like folks do with their Glocks.

Impressive knife making and modifiying pictures everybody!

It took me a while to get two rivets of my handle fixed,
little work but lots of pictures;).

Hammering one side flat and checking if the brass pin still fits.

Using a bench to press the back spring in the handle, so I could insert both rivets.

Unfortunately the glued bone handle broke again. Nevertheless I shortened the rivet, hammered it flat and fixed the broken part with super glue.

At the end I filed down the rivets and the glue, and polished everything with fine sandpaper.

Finally finished mine up. Here's a before pic

It a Schatt & Morgan gunstock, worm groove bone, ATS-34 steel. The blade had a low saber grind on .139" blade stock (!). It was also super thick behind the edge, making it a terrible cutter. I reground the blade and swedges, acid etched the blade and spring, made some of my own denim micarta, added a lanyard tube, and rat tailed the bolsters. Here is how it looks now.

This was my first time modding a slipjoint, and I'm super happy with the way it came out! It's got to be one of my favorite knives now. There's a work in progress thread here:

Holy crap! Y'all have been busy! I'm glad to see that there are some capable craftsmen still out there. I finally got my 73 and did end up mixing it ever so slightly. I'll post a pic sometime soon when I can take one of it. I wasn't able to pinch it open so I sanded the inside curve of the handle just enough to slow me to pinch grip it. Being left handed, I don't like flipping the knife over to open with the nail nick if I don't have too. My bullnose spoiled me a little on that.
I did get a nice score this weekend though. There is a case knife dealer at an old timey hardware store in North Carolina I've visited a few times. I showed home my blue burlap sodbuster I rehandled and told him about my rebuild projects. The owner proceeds to give me a ziplock bag full of old case knives and a couple other brand knives in various states of needing repair. So I'll have a few more projects coming up soon (a Sabre brand hawkbill being one I'm excited about) but the one I'm working on right now is a 1994 Case 6254 trapper. The clip blade had a broken tip and the mark side scales were cracked. I've only got one pic right now but I'm almost finished with the repair. I disassembled the knife and used fiberglass resin to fill the rocker pin holes. They were enlarged from the scales being damaged. Then once that cured, I filled all the cracks with superglue and reattached them to the liners. I think I'm also going to leave the Spey blade out to make it more pocket friendly. I don't really have much use for the Spey anyways. So, here is a before pic and hopefully within a day or two I'll have some of the finished project

Thank You for showing this knife and the process of modifying! The result is fantastic:thumbup:!!
I always wondered how the denim came into micarta, now I could imagine, thanks!:)

HOLY COW WHAT A BEAUTY SHIPWRIGHT!!!!!
That's knocking it out of the park, but for a first mod, unbelievably awesome! I'm in awe.
