Good job Dan! That's a big improvement over what it was and I know you're going to enjoy carrying it. I look forward to seeing what's next.

This one finally came together tonight. I'm very happy with it.

You wouldn't need to make knives from scratch. I'm sure plenty of us would gladly send in base knives for a refinishing like this. I could see using full blade (not those used over sharpened ones you normally see) stuff like an old Colonial or Imperial and make a unique but beautiful user people would be proud to carry. I wish I could do that! My projects are a *little* less refined, like orders of magnitude less ;)

View attachment 705750 View attachment 705751 Beautiful work ea42, 66sprint6 and redsparrow! I am just getting into working on pocket knives. Here is my second, a bit rough, but it functions well and I plan on carrying it.
Dan

"rough" and "functional" add up to a knife that is "pocketable". Knives that are users are my favorite and yours looks like an awesome user that I would proudly pocket and use day in and day out. You might try to finish up the handle and bolsters a little more BUT if its a softer wood, it will get marked up in day to day use so I wouldnt worry about it! Keep at it and good job on taking a wore out old knife and breathing life into it again!

Matt

Thanks for the encouraging words Bob, redsparrow and Matt. I just spent a few hours looking through this thread and WOW, there is a lot of phenomenal work being displayed. I have a long, long way to go!

Looks great!! Flush pins, excellent fit of handle to bolsters, ya gotta be happy with that!! Nice job danno. -James

Not so much a mod as a repair maybe? My uncle has an old Buck 309, he bought it and 2 others a long time ago, one for him and one for each of his sons. He broke the tip and asked me to fix it. I am not a modder so this is pretty ugly, but hopefully he is happy with it. From this:

Now to fix that terrible "edge" :)

Nice save, Whetstone!
I just ordered an old Kingston electricians knife off the big auction site. The wood scales look to be in good condition but I hope to pull a Glennbad mod and make the secondary blade into a cap lifter. More to come next week

I already put this one in the whittling corner but I think it also deserves and the space on this thread
N°8 inox Opinel modified to sheepsfoot
And thinned to zero grind for zip through leather like it is not there ;)
It is for my wife who has a leather bags store, that's the theme of the handle carving

Wow, that handle is gorgeous!
Incredible work, I never thought an Opinel can look like this.

Thanks you only have to be careful when carving the neck because you get really close to the edge trough. The rest depends on your creativity and the sharpness of your carving blade
