Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Thanks guys! Forgot to take a before pic but it was one of the black plastic handled Camillus TL's.

Next up I have someone who'd like a Canal Street barlow converted to a shadow with some wood that he supplied, left over from a dining room table he made many years ago. Very hard, heavy stuff, kind if reminds me of Ipe. I'll try to shoot some pics as I work on this one.

Hey Guys,
I have finally finished reading all 83 pages of this forum! So much inspiration to draw upon for my future projects. Everyone has such great talent.

This is something I just finished up, it an Opinel #10. I stripped the wood down to it's natural finish. Put in finger grooves/easy open notch. Put in a brass lanyard hole. Did file work on the blade (first time, so please don't laugh :) ) and then heat treated all the hardware. Then I stained it Coffee and gave it two shots of clear coat. It's one of my first projects, but I like the way it came out.

Here are some pictures that I uploaded to Instagram, I can't figure out how to embed pictures into this post- https://www.instagram.com/p/BY6rdAyAk-N/?taken-by=bangileri

Take care everyone,
Ben

This is right up my alley ... I love modifying Case designs to better suit me. A few that I've come up with ...

- I've completed (5) "Ratcliffe" mods to date - start with a muskrat & reshape one of the clip blades into a sweeping wharncliffe - really sets up perfect for this mod - my favorite.

- I've completed (2) #63087 medium stockman knife mods with the spey and pen blades (no sheepsfoot as it comes from the factory :(). Seems like a failed design (I don't have much use for the spey blade as a rule anyways). There's just enough meat on the spey blade to reshape it into a nice little carpenters whittler blade - basically a thin sheepsfoot.

- I modded a full size trapper by chopping about a half inch off the unusually long spey blade & creating a big beefy sheepsfoot - only problem is that a new nail nick needs to be cut. I managed to get it pretty good using a drill press, dremel arbor & thick dremel cutoff wheel, but without a milling machine setup, it's difficult to cut a proper arc'd nail nick.

I just wanted to share my newest. I had good friend and fellow forumite Jordan Fowler put new covers on my 99 Famer Lock. Went from Nifebrite to either Kingwood or Palo Santo wood (we're not really sure but we're leaning towards Kingwood). Whichever wood it is, it is stunning in my opinion. I like the burgundy liners as well. Very subtle touch. This is now a new favorite.

What a great job on the re-cover !! It looks slim and sharp.

Beautiful work, Bob!

(That said, I am fond of Nifebrite on F&F knives, so it does make me a little sad that there's one less out there. :D)

Ahhh love the pivot!! That is a work of art, and it the covers look similar to Mora wood, absoluley stunning.

Thought I would share this with all you other modders. I was playing around down in the shop. I had a really jacked-up Camco caplifter 2-blade, with a broken main blade, but the caplifter was decent. I decided to make a keychain lifter. I chopped it down, added some bolsters, and some nice stag. The original knife had a bail, which gave the me the idea in the first place.

I like that, Glenn! (You could carry that on a plane, too, and not feel like your knife was missing every time you reached in your pocket! :D)

I wouldn't have thought of that, I always feel "naked" when I fly with nothing in my pocket. I handsome slipjoint with no blade is just the thing I need. You have my mind working. ;)

Looks great! I had a similar idea a while back. I had K’roo make up my “Chunky Drunk”. A prytool, caplifter. He added a wire stripper notch to the design and a glass breaker for the lanyard hole. I’ve carried it everyday since I got it. Wanted a useful little tool but didn’t need the redundancy of another blade as I usually carry two anyway! I also thought I’d be great to do a caplifter with a pen blade or something like the Coyote wharncliffe in a small frame.
