Mod'ing The CS Trail Hawk

I don't get it.

It's a Spoonerism, a play on words, if you will. "My dull and scentless existence" as opposed to "my dull and senseless existence." Lemon, having a distinct fragrance adds...ahhh ferget it!

Here are some pictures of the finished torched haft fellas, ready for the head to be fitted and the haft to be wrapped...

The edges that Gun-Snob put on those hawks looks incredible. How do you go about putting a covex edge on something like that (or anything for that matter)?

BTW I threw my first hawk today at a friends house. I'm hooked I need a few.

That completely char blacked haft looks great. I just finished one of my hawks, and painted the haft black with many coats and many coats of satin stain. I'll have to try torching one black next. Im gonna try to post up some pics of mine soon. Im very proud of my first modded hawk.

Ok fellas, I hope you enjoy these. Express Blued head, torched haft wrapped with orange paracord. I call this one the GSM1 "BlackWidow" ;) ...

It looks like it belongs next to a jacko-lantern,

But seriously, I'm fascinated by the autumn colors scheme.

I didn't built this one for me and, personally, I wouldn't carry it with orange cord...although I do really like the contrast that the black/orange mix brings. Nay, I would prefer the blackened haft wrapped with olive drab cord which will be my next project: Parkerized head on an india ink ebonized haft with an olive drab cord wrap and dressed in a black kydex sheath. Yeah baby! That one's gonna be Q's!!!

I just wanted to thank GunSnob again for his tremendous generosity and for sharing his huge talent. Thank you so much brother. :)

I can't believe you posted in response to me posting, "I don't get it." You stink. You are not scentless. But you make nice hawks. And I make nice sheaths. You should see the one I am working on now...

Its amazing how much better the hawk looks when the ends of the Haft are rounded. Damn...can't wait to get my hawk, of course I still have to order a haft for it.

I had thought about torching the whole handle myself over the vacation, never went online here for the past 8-9 days... I was thinking FRONTIER HAWK, black head, torched handle, no wrap...

Another handle (I know, 'haft'...), I am thinking some type of red, cherry-colored? That would be stained, of course... black head, no wrap...

I will be throwing mine...

One question...
Do you 'modders' fit the handle to the head prior to the torching, staining, etc?

My first order of business is to sand the haftdle :) so that it fits snug in the eye, although sometimes I get lazy and say "good enough." I have read that there is less chance of breaking the haft when it fits tight in the eye, although I dunno if this is fact or fiction  . If your gonna torch the haft, and you want to sand, definately sand before the burn because sanding a burnt haft wastes a lot of sand paper (the charcol clogs up the paper real fast).

My $.02 anyway. YMMV.
