Mod'ing The CS Trail Hawk

Great post CitizenQ. Like seeing the hawk go from stock to super mod. Is this a project you would recomend for a first timer?

I bought mine before knowing about this thread...What inspiration! I dont even know where to start.

P.S. about the scew in the head. When I first got the hawk I considered removing the screw completely...Dont most hawks fit by being jammed to the top anyway? -without a screw fastener?

IMHO: lose the set screw. No set screw needed with a proper eye to haft fit IMHO. 4mm Allan Key required for set scew removage (I seem to remember it was it's 4mm anyway).

Greetings O Hawk Modding Gods!! :D

I've got a CS Trail on the way to me (after returning a bent Riflemans)

I think I've caught the mod bug but have never played with a Hawk before..
Just a (dumb) question if I may

To get the head off, it needs drifting off the long end of the haft, yes?

I´ve got a CS Trail Hawk a few months back and I havent got around doing anything with it exept stripping the paint of it. Then the outher day i had a few moments of spare time so here is my innitial work. I´m thinking of trying to darken the head with either mustard och lemonacid. Any tips on this? Opinions?

Received my Trail hawk and have run into a probelm..

Trying to drift the head off the haft the fit is so tight where the head touches the haft it's chewing into the wood..

Any ideas how to remove it without wrecking the haft?

I soak my hawk heads in apple cider vinegar for 48 hours. It works great and really gives the head a dark patina. BTW, I have a friend who sandblasts the paint off the heads for me. :)

Lookin Good.................

Just a tip for paint removal. To shorten time and get it done with one application almost every time. Put the paint stripper on and then wrap the said item to be stripped in saran wrap very well. This will keep the paint stripper from drying out and allow it to work for a much longer period. I usually leave items in for 30 min and when done the paint just falls off.

That's a great tip...thank you.

Stained the handle, did some cosmetic work to the head and added a patina. Then put a convex edge to it. It needs something else... just don't know what. I did some P-cord wrapping to it but didn't like it or the feel.

No I'm likin' it too. You should have seen my Swamp Rats when I stripped them. They had machine gouges and pits all over the place.

DingoBubba...that is darn sweet what you did to the under-side of that CS tarilhawk head bro...what did you use to cut it...a file?

To quote a famous chopper, "I cannot tell a lie"... actually used a Dremel with grinding stone bit. Then finished with a sanding bit. Didn't take long at all. Cooled it every so often with water. Think I'm going to get some tiny files tho and do a more decorative pattern to the upper part. Was fun to do. Think I'm gonna need some more hawks now.
