Monster Chopper that I can take to Hell and Back Knife

Even the Ontario RD-9 would fit the bill. And you'd have plenty left over.

Another vote for the junglas.... Love mine..... Great chopper and very comfortable to handle

Go Custom all the way

But in all seriousness, there is no reason a good custom maker couldn't make you an insane chopper exactly to suit your needs and wants.

I have knives from all three busse-kins, ESSE, and Ka-bar/Becker and I can proudly proclaim that Cold Steel's cheapo kukri like machete can do all the jobs you described and is much lighter to take with you in the bush. Although it is light, the blade geometry allows for excellent chopping ability. I know it isnt as cool as the other knives mentioned by others here or even in my own collection but everyone should pack one of these just in case TSHTF. Also, if it gets really bad in hell, you could just leave it there. Maybe satan will trip on it. LOL. Oink for life.

Lots of good suggestions up there... But I have to reitterate the Becker BK9.

Look it up. Check the prices. Read testimonials. Go to the Becker area of the forum and check out pictures of the BK9 being abused (and doing some abusing). And really check online for a price (they are all over). You could buy a BK9 and still have plenty left over to buy ammo for your zombie stash.

Once you get your first Becker, in this case a BK9, you will begin to need more. Next you will want a BK7 because it is like your BK9's little brother. Then you will say, "I love using this knife, but it just seems too big for some stuff." That will lead you to buy a BK2. "Wow! What a useful knife. I can do anything with this." But then you start to get thirsty. You are worried your knife might be too beastly to pop the top off a glass beer bottle. Lo! There is a Becker for that! You fall in love with the BK11 because it is like a tiny BK2 with a bottle opener. "Gasp!" [Faints]

I love that so many Becker fans have such a sense of humor as they shamelessly promote their favorite brand. I am going to have to check out their forum!

Many great suggestions so far but this is where Busse Combat knives really excel.

While the NMFBM is the undisputed king of the heavy weight choppers, there are many more to choose from such as the SHBM's, any flavor of the FBM's, BWM, the Basic 11 or 10.

Take your pick. You wont find a better hard use choppers than these.

No love for the ka-bar choppers? I'd buy all 4 of them and still be at around half your budget.

I got em all but the large bowie, I would love to get one as a project and make it into a more traditional looking one with a coffin rosewood handle and polished blade.
