Mora, Fällkniven and more...

Fallkniven is a Swedish company but their products are all made in Japan, aren't they?

Yup, not "Swedish" knives any more than a China-made product is an "American" knife. Fallkniven are Japanese knives with Swedish branding.

And your comment about more expensive Mora's is spot on  Create a separate brand for your premium line, people will be more inclined to buy. It is easier to deceive oneself into paying more for a less useful tool if it seems to come from a different company ;) :p

To the OP, Mora is the most well known and is well regarded, the GB axes are also well regarded as a premium product, and other brands just need to work on establishing themselves better in the US. Another example of this is French brands - nearly everyone on this forum is familiar with Opinel and they are well regarded as inexpensive knives that perform very well for the price, but other French brands are not nearly as well known. Italy's Lionsteel is very well known as a premium knife company, Fox and Extreme Ratio are less well known/respected, and many others are just unheardof. *shrug*

Love mine!!

I agree, that Mora should stick to their standard knives.

If I want a knife in the Gaberg style/class, I wont be shopping for a Mora.

Fallkniven are relatively expensive quality knives - they are of good quality BECAUSE they are made in Japan.

If they were manufactured in Sweden you don't think they would be as good?

Ohh, the Swedes have been making knives for a long time - Im sure, they'd be okay.

They'd just have to be even more expensive then.

Its just that some in the thread wont buy Fallkniven because of them being made in Japan.

As if they cant make good knives in Japan.

Gotchya, and I agree. Japan makes excellent quality knives and cutting instruments amongst other things.

And back to the OP, I probably wouldn't ever spend the money on something like a Garberg, but I received one as a gift from a fellow member and I like the handle on it!

I really like the Morakniv’s. Great value. I love the looks of the Fallkniven but I did not know they were MIJ.

I love Swedish knives with their beautiful minimalist, functional designs. All those clean lines. As for the specific brands, Moras are very highly regarded here, as they are an excellent woods-knife that will not break the bank. As for Fallkniven, I don't own any of their knives, but have liked those that I've seen in pictures. I just have other knives that already fit those roles. But as for Mora, everyone should have one (one in each camping bag and car, I mean!).

I own a Companion and Robust and the F1. Great knives, in their respective rights. Am a huge fan of stainless fixed blades.

To answer the OP's question regarding "any more" I think 12C27, 14C28N, and VG10 are loosing ground to the current trend of performance PM stainless steels.

Given the choice, I'll take a full tang M390 or ELMAX blade into the wood before a rat tang 12C27.

My Mora Companion is the least expensive and one of my favorites as well. I love this knife.;) Used it last night to cut 15 pounds of beef for hamburger and 10 pounds of pork for sausage. The Mora is a very versatile knife that imho everyone should own.
