Mora, Fällkniven and more...

On topic, this sure looked disappointing

Horror stories about weakness due to the lamination are out there too,
Broken tips and chips...

(Removed the fake F1 picture)

Though these are probably real,

Surely they are fine cutting instruments unless you beat the piss out of them lol
but I keep my distance from Fallkniven

I have had an A1 for years and it has been used intensively. The factory edge either chipped or rolled in places, didn’t pay too close attention, I just sharpened it and have never had a problem since. All large producers make the occasional lemon. The vast majority have great experience with Fällkniven.

That is definitely a clone. You can see the secondary bevel, not even close to convex from factory. You can also see how the rubber guard/bolster area is shaped differently than stock and there is no lamination line along the blade (even in crappy pics you should be able to make it out). That my friend is a chinese garbage clone.

Nobody's mentioned EKA. They make a great knife as well. I have an oldy but goody, the EKA 110 celebrating 110 years of existence (I think). You don't see too many of their products in the US. I've found them at gun shows in the midwest, particularly in communities with Swedish American populations.

I don't consider Fallkniven swedish for both design and production reasons. Many of their folders have more Japanese design elements than Swedish. Their marketing leads one to believe the knives are Swedish-made and they don't allow the original manufacturer to mark the knife "Made in Japan" like Sog, Spyderco, etc. Their warranty isn't the best for their prices. It is for only 10 years and you must be able to prove you bought it from an "authorized" dealer. Their site states: "The Fällkniven AB warranty only applies to Fällkniven knives purchased from authorized Fällkniven dealers, make sure you save the receipt. Products purchased on the Internet through discount websites or through any other unauthorized source are not entitled to our warranty coverage."

If you want a Swedish knife, buy Mora or Eka. :)

Love mora knives! Never had a Fallkniven, but thinking about getting a F1d or F1 pro. Problem is there are SO many amazing knives at that price point, both custom and production. Tough choice!

The F1 (and other models) is a heavily counterfeited model out of China.

That chipped blade photo is a counterfeit. See the edge by the guard of a genuine F1.

Best to stay away from Counterfeits, rather than from Fallknivens.

Thank you guys for pointing this out!

I was not aware, and such posts(#61) needs to be defused ASAP.

Again thank you. :cool::thumbsup:

There will always be lemons in any production knife. In fact they will occur in custom ones as well. It's far too time consuming to track down and verify each and every "knife failure" on the internet. And this covers many many other brands besides Fallkniven as well. Verification would require confirming exactly how the knife failed, how was it being used, etc etc, ad infinitum.

As far as I am concerned, if a knife passes stringent military tests, that says a lot more to me than internet reviews. Just my 2 cents.

"In 1995 the Swedish Air Force after much testing adopted the Fallkniven F1 as the pilot survival knife."
"In 2000 the F1,S1 and A1 models were tested by the US Naval Air Warfare Center in Patuexent River Maryland. The F1 and S1 were accepted for use by USMC and USN aircrews. The A1 passed all tests but was too large for the aircrews’ survival vests. However the A1 is known to be in use by Special Forces units of the U.S. and other nations as well."

We use 3-4 Moras in rotation daily in the kitchen for years now and they are the best. I love the Mora 2000 for food prep as much as I love to have it on a camping trip. My only other fixed blades are an F1 and a Helle Viking blade blank that I put a birch bark handle on.
Scandi knives are my favorites when it comes to fixed.

I have a F1d, it has the COS steel, the same as the F1 pro, and I like it a lot. The F1 pro is a bit thicker than the standard F1 and more expensive. I have the S1 and a A1 as well.
I agree, it is a tough choice as to what to get as there are many great knives.

Have you ever owned a Fallkniven or are you basing this off internet 'wisdom'. I have been using them for years. Hattori makes excellent fixed blades. The Fallknivens use premium stainless left hard, so the tips don't plastically deform at the failure point instead they undergo brittle deformation. If you want a stainless knife that won't break buy one of the AUS6 knives that holds an edge like crap.
