"Mora! Mora! Mora!"

"Why a Mora?" is a good article and explains well the appeal of these simple and inexpensive knives. I also have an Ol' Red and really do not need anything more for a sheath knife.

For some reason, Mora's are what you buy kids for a first fixed blade, and then there is this huge gap when you buy them again because you have experience.

My son has amassed quite a few FBs ranging from inexpensive crap to high dollar quality pieces.

This year, he picked up a Mora Companion. All the knives in the joint, that's the one he wanted.

Wonder what took the lad so long.

I bought the version with the firestarter in the grip, it throws nice spark, and great knife, which one would you say is the Mora to own, I want to buy another one,
Thanks

The companion HD is a great knife if you like carbon steel.

I don't have any experience with the higher priced models, nicer handles and such, but I imagine you can't go wrong.

I find everyone's obsession with Mora a bit strange, given the quality and cost of the Hultafors makes them a vastly better choice. Even the basic Mora with a plastic handle runs at a bit over twice the price of a Hultafors, and the Hultafors is a nicer blade imo.

I also fail to see the appeal in the bush crafter line of Moras. If the point in choosing a basic blade is functionality, what extra functionality do these models offer for the $?

Trust me, once you have handled a $15 Hultafors knife you won't look back.

Say what?!

Basic Mora's are $9! Where can you get Hultafors for less than half that?!

Indeed, there are about 20 Mora models $15 or less!

Companion's are sold for $15 on most sites, that certainly doesn't equate to "half" the price if a $15 hultafors... Not a knock on hultafors either, just saying...

Simple fact is you can read head to head reviews of the two and one favors Mora, another favors Hultafors, but most agree the two are closely comparable. They both are very similar Knives at the end of the day, and neither us leaps and bounds ahead if the other...

As per this thread, "Hultafors! Hultafors! Hultafors!" Just didn't work as well, but in the OP I did give a shout out to ALL Nordic knife brands, Hultafors included.

My apologies, I checked the prices and you are right - the basic plastic handled Mora like the 511 is actually a lot cheaper in the USA than I'd realised.

Hultafors still beats them though - I own a few of each and the Hultafors is an automatic first choice in the camping kit.

I have to agree. My Hultafors is just a tad better than my Mora. Mora really shines with their stainless though. Best edge holding of any stainless blade I've owned when your talking about the basic stainless grades. Excellent choice for stainless. In carbon, no doubt the Hultafors blows it away and mine was a cool $13.00 with santoprene rubber handles. Fits the hand better too.

When i was checking the prices I came across the new Mora Pro line - they are just out in 2015. The Pro handle shape looks a lot like a Hultafors! This is interesting as the Hultafors' handle is one of the features i preferred over my Moras.

I ordered a Pro just to see how they compare.

I'm going to go check them out right now. Thanks for the heads up!

Edit: good lord, only $12.95 for a stainless mora pro. It's going to dang near perfect. Hultafors style handle with mora stainless. With that price, I might get a couple.

Here's my $15 Mora Companion HD in the garden with my heirloom 'maters ...

It's been modded - shaved the handle down some for a better grip with gloves and drilled a .25" lanyard hole.
