Mora passaround?

It did occur to me that buying a single Mora is not significantly more than the passaround cost, so there should be some side bonuses. Mod-ing the knife is a good one that was already suggested. Anyone interested in passing around multiple Mora-style knives for comparison? Maybe add one of the modern moras with plastic handle? Or possibly a carbon vs. stainless test? Just throwing the idea in to stir the pot, but I'd be willing to order a suitable blade to be shipped to person #1 if people like it.

udtjim. You have been added to the list. Tohatchi NM If we could take a vote for your idea, I guess we could do that too. What do you guys think?

I think it would put a strain on Brett, considering he would have to pack and ship all the knives back to their owners at the end of the passaround.

personally, I think the simpler the better, but I am pretty open to anything.

I kinda feel bad now because it seems I will be the beneficiary of some cool modding. i never intended that AT ALL.

As a matter of fact, charlieridge will be receiving a nice little surprise with the mora.

Hope you like slippies Mark.

OK, in for a penny, in for a pound. If people like the idea, I'll supply one of the following knives, shipped to person #1:

http://www.ragweedforge.com/SwedishKnifeCatalog.html

#711 - 4" carbon blade with soft rubber handle from Ericksson
#911 - similar to 711, with a finger choil and slightly smaller handle
#740-MG - 4" carbon blade, plastic handle with guard, by Frosts

Stainless or laminate blade would be OK, too, if it complemented whatever knife we have now. If the knife returned to me after the passaround (assuming it survived OK), I'd be willing to spring for a Mora 2000 - 4.5" stainless blade - which seems to be quite popular for bushcraft and survival kit use. You can tell I've been meaning to try out some of these knives!

Anyway, I'll let the group discuss and we can decide what people are interested in. (if no one is excited by having a comparison blade, you won't hurt my feelings. I'll just have it sent to me! :D ). Also, please put me on the passaround list.

Guys, for this first one, lets just go with the original idea. 1 knife. Maybe next time we can do a comparasion.

I'm not in--busy, strapped for cash--but have another you might add to the stack.

You might try the H-2/0 -- smallest of the Frost's traditional wood-handled Mora line--it's tiny, and even a little awkward in the hand for that reason--but its small size means you can put it into little survival kits. You could even try shortening the handle and making it into an instant replacement karda (small knife) for use in conjunction with a khukuri.

I see you're planning to include a Craftsman. I like that idea. I like the Triflex Craftsman's differentially-tempered blade, plus the fact that you can use a mini-carabiner through the lanyard hole to lock the knife into the scabbard. (I figure that latter trick would work with any Craftsman.)

Just some thoughts. Oh, also, if anyone manages to bend a laminated Mora blade (I've heard this can happen--that the blades are thin enough that having a hardened core and softer sides means that they bend more easily than they perhaps ought to), I'd love to see pictures. If, on the other hand, the laminated blades are essentially just too tough to bend, I'd love to hear that, too.

It seems there's still some room, any chance I can get in on this?
I have a 510, but it would be nice to play with one of the wood handled ones.

Is everyone writing a review when they are done with it?
I think it would be cool if everyone posted a reveiw of what they did with it, and what mark they put on it, when they are done with there week and a half.

ill sign up for a passaround i dont even own a fixed blade anymore... would i have to buy and send out a mora or 2 to someone?
