Mora Sweden

I had also noticed on the Mora site that the laminated No. 1 with a leather sheath (known as the 137) was missing but the same knife is now gift boxed and called the Morakniv Original 1. Further checking around the net shows this re-branded 137 has a significantly increased price. This was confirmed this morning by a dealer I contacted and also that the Orig classic No. 2 is missing from their distributor price lists. Just musing here but perhaps the laminated carbon is becoming so expensive that Mora decided to drop the larger, 4 1/4" blade model. Makes good business sense as in my experience viewing various dealers sites, the Original Classic line is a slow mover compared to the Classic red and synthetic handled versions.

I still have queries out to dealers.....hope I'm wrong about the No. 2.

Btw, Eddie_T, did you get my visitor message?

i made my first handle on laminated Mora(from all scrap pieces around house)

laminated blades are still available, but just in case i still have two with original wood handles, hard to beat woodworking tools

Well, I have two inquiries in to Mora about the No. 2 size Orig Classic laminated blades.....no response in over a week and they say most questions are answered in 24 hours. :(

I guess its safe to say that the No. 1 size (the 137 and the Orig Classic No.1) are staying but are renamed with the 137 (leather sheath) being renamed/repackaged and costing more.

Any members here with connections to the folks at Mora and can find out for sure if the No. 2 size is gone?

Bump with a pic of my laminated blade Mora...

Nice looking set-up SAK Guy. Let me know what you find out about the #2 Moras, might have to pick one up. Plan on ordering a #106 first though for Scout carving projects.

Thanks and I will! I'm going to try and get another No. 2 next month if I can swing it....

I called them and they confirmed that the lam. No 2 is discontinued.
This includes the Fiber sheath No 2 and the blanks as well.

Get them where You can, before they are totally sold-out!
The regular carbonsteel No 2 is still in production.

Regards
Mikael

Thank you so much Mikael!!

used the discontinuing of the original with laminated steel as an excuse to get one. (im not even entirely sure what makes laminated steel different lol). was going to get a mora eventually. havent had a chance to get a pix yet. its smaller than i thought but thats fine; its like someone around here once said; 'it dont have to be big, just sharp'.

Yes, and the laminated O1 Mora stays sharp longer than the 1095 and 12c27 models!

It sounds like You got the smaller classsic No 1.
The No 2 is big enough to fill the palm well.
No worrie's, just get the No 106 and swap the handles!

I did this to one of my No 1's and both models benefits from this.

Is that the Model 137 ? (Which I think is the same size as the No. 1 but with a leather sheath) That's the one I've been looking at (mainly because of the sheath, I admit) but have wondered about the handle maybe being a bit too small. I think I have average size hands so it should probably be fine. Will be curious to hear what you think of it.

Yep, like Mikael said, that's the No. 1 sized 137! Great knife! These are being re-boxed, renamed and re-priced upward. It's smart to buy them now!

Here's the size diff between the No. 1 and No. 2 sizes (2 is on top)

Jack, this Lami Mora has really spoiled me as far as my fixed blades go. Not because of how truly blown away I was by receiving such a great gift, but because it is such an awesome tool in so many ways. The handle feels as if it was made for MY hand, and the ergonomics of the blade makes cutting seem as if the knife is a natural extension of my hand. This Laminated steel gets crazy sharp, and holds that edge superbly. Hands down this is the knife I would keep if I only could have one sheath knife.
Recently, mainly because of this thread I picked up a small Mora lami,:

nothing special at first glance, I actually thought about modding it a bit for pocket carry, but decided instead to put it in the real place of honor in my house, the kitchen knife drawer! That way it can receive daily use, and it will be grabbed ahead of some paring knives costing many times what this one did :D

Thanks to this thread I just purchased a #137 Mora. I'm eager to try the 61 Rc. edge of the laminated steel. Thanks for the heads up. I also purchased a 2-1/2" carving knife for my son with the same laminated steel, and the Swedish Woodcarving Book/DVD (that was just re-released) for him as well. Nice that we can get such high-performing knives and steels for so little money!

Thanks for the heads-up on that model being discontinued and a new model being priced higher.

Hi Duane, I'm really glad you like it so so much. I thought a lot about the handle and I hoped it would fit you. Despite my pulling your leg, I've actually got quite large hands myself, not as big as your own of course (;) ), but getting there, and I figured this Mora would be just right for you. That laminated steel is something else isn't it? :)

Jack

yes, that is the #137. it stopped raining so i used it out in the yard a little, cutting saplings and spent vegetation top-killed by recent frost.
its my first sheath knife and ive really only had a few minutes with it. the handle is kind of oval in cross-section and is very comfortable to use. i have somewhere around average size hands. the wooden part of the handle (not including the metal ring at the edge of the blade) is exactly 3.5 inches long.
the knife came extremely sharp; i barely brushed the edge against my arm while trying to cut some honeysuckle vine out of a patch of bushes and slightly nicked myself.
in general im very glad i have it. delivered, it was around the price of a tank of gas for my wifes little honda. i have heard nothing but good things about mora knives and my first impression does nothing to dispel their reputation. looking forward to working with it some more.
