Mora Sweden

yes, that is the #137. it stopped raining so i used it out in the yard a little, cutting saplings and spent vegetation top-killed by recent frost.
its my first sheath knife and ive really only had a few minutes with it. the handle is kind of oval in cross-section and is very comfortable to use. i have somewhere around average size hands. the wooden part of the handle (not including the metal ring at the edge of the blade) is exactly 3.5 inches long.
the knife came extremely sharp; i barely brushed the edge against my arm while trying to cut some honeysuckle vine out of a patch of bushes and slightly nicked myself.
in general im very glad i have it. delivered, it was around the price of a tank of gas for my wifes little honda. i have heard nothing but good things about mora knives and my first impression does nothing to dispel their reputation. looking forward to working with it some more.

Thanks for the quick feedback. (And thank you SAK Guy for the No. 1 / No. 2 comparison pictures) Sounds like a quality knife, and one you'll be happy with. Based on your comments, I also think the handle size will work for me. It's just deciding on the No.1 with the leather sheath or the No. 2 with the fiber sheath.

I wear large size gloves and the No. 1 size is fine, but the No. 2 absolutely fits me better.

Will also get a 137 when I can (like the sheath) but am using the Sharpshooter 4'' sheaths for my No. 2's.

Here's the Sharpshooter sheath: (I added the belt keepers and neck cord)

I don't know if it makes a difference but they will still make the No. 1 size in two versions but the full tang laminated No. 2 will be gone. That's why I want an extra No. 2 to put back now .

:thumbup::D

It's a great user for yard and garden work.
Remember that the edge is initially set for fine cutting.
If You cut into hard knots when woodworking, there is a need to reset the very cuttingedge a little bit thicker.

I do it on a fine stone and leatherstrop.
Usually the edge gets a lot more tougher, when the factory edge is gone.

I also fill the handles with slow curing glue, like some superglue's and epoxy's.
This will seal the interior of the handle from rust, dirt and whatever.
I pour drops of glue into the hole in the top and let it come out at the ferrule.

Good if You use the knife for food, hunting & fishing.
In this way the knife can last 15-20 years of fairly hard use.

The handles are oiled with linssed oil and varnished or coated with hardwax.

Thanks to y'all enablers, and fueled by my curiosity to try some Sandvik 12C27 steel, I just received a Mora 11827 (replaces the 860MG) Companion in OD green and black. Haven't used it yet (other than shaving some arm hair ;)), but intend to try it out soon. The balance and feel are amazingly good for a $13 knife.

Anyone have a pic of a Mora #1 next to a #2?

Just got the Mora 106 carver and I like the handle shape a lot better. I want to say it is the same as the #2.

Yes it's the same.
Here's the #1 and #2 in laminated O1, hrc 61.

The #2 is made from a bladeblank and has got the handle from a #106!

I got myself the short carving knife last week. Great little tool. The store also had the blanks. I should check back and maybe pick one up if they are d/c

Bumping the Mora thread with a pic of my 50's/60's NOS KJ Erikssons! I was fortunate to get a No. 1 and the hard to find 1/0 size both in unused condition! :)

Thank you Mikael! They have full tangs and still had the paper wrap on the blades!!!! I Think I bruised my fingertip hitting the "buy" buttons so fast!!!!!! :D

^^ Wow! That's really fantastic knife modding.

Can you share the steps you took to cut and drill the tang please?

I got the Erik Frost Mora 106 laminated blank blade and made a folding knife. It works great.

Very creative!!

The #106 bladeshape and edgeholding, makes it an important tool in the woodworker's inventory.
A folding 106 is certainly innovative!!

I don't know...a Swedish-French hybrid knife? Are you trying to incite an EU incident? lol.

Seriously, it looks great and I bet it performs just as good as it looks. Nice job!!

Mora already collaborate with a French steelmill regarding the laminated steel.
The French mill produce the laminate with Swedish Uddeholm O1 as the coresteel.
Mora makes the blades and produce the knives.

Mora says it's difficult to get enough of the laminated raw steel.
This is why they have discontinued a few models in this steel.
