Mora Sweden

Mora already collaborate with a French steelmill regarding the laminated steel.
The French mill produce the laminate with Swedish Uddeholm O1 as the coresteel.
Mora makes the blades and produce the knives.

Mora says it's difficult to get enough of the laminated raw steel.
This is why they have discontinued a few models in this steel.

Mikael

Thanks for the info Mikael!

I read through this thread, but I'm slightly confused. Maybe I missed it, but what is the laminated blade made of? Is the core steel the same as the carbon steel, but with a stainless coating? Or is it made of some kind of tool steel?

I just ordered a couple of small wood carving knives. The 120, and the 122. I'm hoping they are small enough to pocket carry.

It's all carbon. The core is the equivalent to O-1 and softer carbon sandwiches it.

The primary grind (core) of my Mora patina-ed quickly and uniformly gray....the sides of the laminate did not.

Thanks.
And I take it it's harder than the carbon on an Opinel. (my current woodcarving knives) I'm really looking forward to this!

Bumping this thread to remind everyone that the discontinued Mora Original Classic #2 knives are quickly going away. The supply is dwindling or gone from a lot of online sellers. These have the superlative laminated carbon, 4 1/4" blade with a 61-62 HRC core. These last Orig #2's also have the old style full length tang. The new #2 size Moras have solid carbon blades with 3/4 tangs but are still a fine knife in their own right.

My #2..

The window is closing on the fine knives. The laminated #1 (3 7/8" blade) size is still available but now has a new model number and a significantly higher price.

Here's a recent pic alongside a No 8 Opinel.

I purchased a Mora 120 for wood carving and I love the steel.

I also purchased a Mora 106 (longer) with no handle and hand carved this hilt for it.

The price on them is excellent and I find it really easy to maintain the edge.

Bump as a reminder that the Orig Classic #2's are discontinued. Supplies are dwindling....

New pic of my Mora #2's...

And it looks like the best knives for the money, the 511, 546G and 546 may be discontinued as well...they are not in the current Mora catalog...

Funny this is here on the first page. Last weekend me and some buds from the Marine Corps League did a cookout lunch on the beach for the 2015 Surf Warrior event. I needed a knife to slice tomatoes and had a Mora field knife in the Toyo. I had never used it and it was brand new. I got the knife and began to slice. I was impressed. The knife was super sharp and sliced very well. I was able to get 8-10 tomato slices from each tomato which is great for me even in my kitchen much the less on the beach. The fella did a great job. I didn't realize it was CS until about an hour later when we were cleaning up and I noticed the patina on it from the tomatoes. I'm much more fond of this knife now and might look for another. I'm attaching a few pics from last year and this year.

Looks like you guys had fun! That knife is a Mora Companion...it's a great knife! I think you can get it if SS too.

My No. 1 Classic in a sheath VCM3 gifted me which arrived yesterday. A excellent knife. Incredible considering you can get them for about $15.

Picked up a No. 1 Original laminated a couple of weeks ago from a gun forum. Some guys just don't appreciate these knives, I suppose.

For some reason the unica fiber sheath just speaks to me.
