Moran Auction

Stacy,

That is a really great gesture. I'd like a piece if there are any left. PM or Email me for shipping address. Let me know what the shipping costs are.

Thanks again.

Robert

Stacy, Thats a great story...made me laugh out loud. I could just picture the whole scene.
Your right...He was just plain ole Bill...
........and thats what made him great...

I wonder if theres a pond at those Dixie fair grounds....maybe we could drop a line...you bring the pole, I'll bring some lures.
Mace

Thanks for this thread, it has been a good read. It would be truly amazing to have a small piece of history. If I can make it into the 20 that would be great. Regardless I hope that we can all see what gets made.

All the best, Jeff

I'd sure like to try for a piece of Bill's steel Stacy, but looks like I'm near the bottom of the pole, I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Stacy, I love that story about Bill, I think I would have liked hanging around with him as a youth (anyone else ever fish with m-80s?).

Thanks for doing this, and if I can suggest something, I would love to see everyone who gets a piece of this steel post a picture of the knife they forge in a thread dedicated to it.

All of those pieces of steel have to be spoken for by now, but if it isn't too late, I'd love to have one, Stacy! Not sure that I'll use it immediately, but it would be inspiring just to know where it's been!

i forgot to ask what the shipping was goingto be just let me know so i can make it up to you
thank you again

Stacy, if you have any of the steel left I would love a piece I took my js performance test with Mr. Moran a few years ago. I would love to use a piece of his steel for one of my five JS blades. Thanks, Mike

Raymond,David,Bruce,Craig,Decker, and Butcher block get the first sets.

Wow, did you know today was my birthday Stacy? :) In all seriousness though, I really, really appreciate it and want to extend a wholehearted thanks for your thoughtfulness. My mentor in knifemaking met Bill a few times (the guy I mentioned in my earlier post) so I suppose I'll probably cut the bar in two and give half of it to him, it's the very least I can do for him and it's my own little way of passing on your generousity. So, thanks from both of us.

Send me an email at deker at slackdot dot org (yes, that's slackdot, I didn't put two "dots" in there by accident :) ) and I'll get you my shipping info.

Thanks again.

I saw the notification of the auction here and wrote to Robert Wilson with 5 absentee bids. The first bid was to get any of the forged unfinished blades until I got one of them. There was a glass paperweight I liked a a rather large figher plane round of ammunition, a kukri and a kershaw knife. I was unsuccessful in all bids :(

Kindly, the auctioneer sent me this.

I have a little more time to respond now.... The auction as a whole was
great the best deals were on the furniture, other then that it was all very
good. The knives went from a high of $6000.00 to $3800.00 (a small
non-forged blade) with an average of $5100.00. As I said before the
non-signed forged blades low were $200.00 high of $1250.00 just to give you
a little more insight. Thanks again and I am sorry that we couldn't help you
out.
