Most common knife owned by BF members

Tenacious, RAT 1. Much more people willing to spend $25 than $100 on a knife so I doubt it could be the Griptilian or PM2.

The Griptilian used to be reasonably priced. Bought mine for $65-ish brand new from a major dealer. I bet a lot of BF members bought them back then, and still have them.

Agree about the PM2. Rat-1, I don't think it's been around for long enough to work itself into the majority of collections yet. Just guessing of course.

If blade forums members were knife knuts as kids, odds are they had a SAK at one time in their life. If they got a knife from an aunt or uncle as a kid, odds are it was a SAK. Since Victorinox is the worlds largest knife company, with the world largest out;ut of production, odds are a SAK is one of the knives they had.

If you extrapolate on the production numbers, the Victorinox classic is, and has been for a number of years, the worlds most produced pocketknife. We Amercans think of the Buck 110 as a ubiquitous knife, but that's a very slanted view compared to the numbers. Just a fe years ago, Buck had a bit to-do over the fit that they had produced the 10 millionth Buck 110 since it came out in 1964. That's 10,000,000 knives since 1964. Sounds impressive. But…

In an article some years back in Knife world magazine, the Victorinox rep said they make 35 million SAK's a year. Of those, 9 million of them are the classic model. That's 9,000,000 every year. For who knows how many years. World wide, there are more Victorinox classic's in circulation than any other knife, except for maybe Opinel. They make 7 million Opinel's a year.

A few years ago, I think it was either Blade Magazine or Knives illustrated, had a cover photo of a red Vic classic. The story was, it was the most confiscated knife in the U.S. at T.S.A. security check points. That's a heck of a lot of little SAK's floating around on key rings.

But that's the populate at large. How many of them are bonafide knife knuts that are blade forums members?

I think everyone has a SAK stuck someplace that they either had since they were a kid, or was gifted to them when they were in the boy scouts or something. But they later picked up something from Spyderco or Kershaw. So, world in general Victorinox wins, but on Bladeforums, something with one hand opening and locks. Both from Japan or other Asian country.

You know this is only talking about BFC members right?

Hi Craytab

Yes i do.To make things clear, what leads me into this conclusion is logical reasoning....Why?

Simply, because who are BF members? Members of public, who loves the edge a bit more, than the rest.....
What kind of knifes are most common in public households? Bottom price ones is the answer....whether Marcinek feel insulted or not....
Where are most of BF members from?
Most members of bladeforums seem to me living in USA....

What is the most common bottom price seller in USA? BUDK seem to be most favourable choice according my opinion....

My conclusion is:

It is very likely that most BF members will have in his possesion / household one of the cheapest knifes possible, just to beat the crap out of it,or just having arround as memory from childhood, gift from first girlfriend, father etc....

It is very unlikely that most of members will hold in ownership Nihonto for tens of thousands USD,also it is very unlikely that most of BF members will own middle segment factory,or custom made knife of same brand due to extended and very large selection on the market...(Virtually impossible to choose, unless you choose biggest, largest company)

Likelihood of most BF members using bottom priced knifes from BUDK is therefore for me, most possible option out there,to be closest to truth....

Marcinek however, seem to hold status of lately established censorship authority in here on BF and may feel offended and insulted by your opinions expressed here, without responding directly to him, with all hard evidence, before you are entitled to post anything here, what he may find insulting to his Majesty....(sorry Marcinek,i do not have time to provide you with evidence of my opinion in this thread,as you asked earlier on,,,,because it would take couple of days work to gather this evidence for you,to visit every household of every BF member,to take a snapshots of his cutlery for you......sorry,when i will be less busy,i may do it for you.Hopefully that will help to your insulted feelings,by my BUDK answer....

Therefore new announcment must be made here since all opinions shall be submitted to Marcinek with hard evidence guys, othervise he may find it insulting and you do not want that guys...

Best Regards,Seriousblade1

Another vote for the Vic Classic; inexpensive, almost indestructible, good for use in a sheeple society, available just about everywhere. I've bought knives and the sellers threw in a Classic for free.

I have 10 of them! (bought a lot of them that were confiscated by TSA). Might not be the most liked knife in a collection, but my guess is it's the one more BF members have. Hmm, then maybe the Buck 110. They have been around for a long time and have remained fairly popular.

Ditto jackknife! AND one more thing to all the knife snobs. I don't care or judge what someone carries.I just want them to explain to anyone asking "it's a tool not a weapon" If they're a BF member all the better!

Another vote for the Vic classic or the Buck 110. There was a thread a while back (I looked but couldn't find it) about knives that everyone should own. Willing to bet the answers to that thread would mirror the results of this question well:) I would like to see a pole and we can find out!

I have to believe this question has been posted before, but I am not very good at searching old threads. If it is out there let me know. If its not I think it would be interesting to know.

What is the most common knife owned by Blade forum members. If we get enough good suggestions then narrow down to some finalists, I think a poll would be in order.

So... What knife do you think is most common among us knife nuts

I'll start it off with my guess Benchmade Griptillian

Lets hear your guesses. Make it a specific brand and model, like Victorinox pioneer, not just Victorinox or SAK

Spyderco ParaMilitary 2

For Americans I'm betting some kind of gerber, schrade, buck, or sak. For Europeans I'm betting sak or opinel. For the rest of the continents I'm at a loss. I'm betting some kind of razor blade box cutter.

I'm still at a loss, though, because most people I talk to about knives say gerber first. So I bet gerber.

"Oh, that's a nice spyderco/zt/custom knife, I'm kind of a collector, too. I have a couple gerbers and a smith and Wesson. You can't really go wrong with gerber."

"Sure, buddy."

Smatchet!

Seriously, can anything compete with the SAK? Maybe a Buck 110, but I doubt it. The SAK has been around since 1891! I wouldn't be surprised if some of us have SAKs sitting in drawers or tool boxes we don't even know we have. Now if the question was asked which is the most popular knife owned by BF members, I'm pretty sure we'd get a different response. But that wasn't the question.
