Most no-nonse utilitarian blade you own.

Well I was going to post my Case Sod Buster. Then I decided to mull a bit.
I have got it !
The most low key no-nonsense if not downright ugly knife I own . . . is
My Case Trapper in the white handle.
I actually really like the way it looks and do not think it ugly in any way. Feels good in hand (does not feel cheep even though it is a "plastic" handle.
Why it's no nonsense :
  • Stainless
  • no lock to pinch me or stick or fail or fool with or wear out
  • inexpensive enough that if I break it or loose it not a big deal (though I would feel bad because I LIKE THIS KNIFE !).
  • easily replaceable
  • long enough to do serious work
  • not showy so unlikely anyone will be terrified by it (or steal it).
  • annnnnnnd . . . if I loose it in the dark it is the easiest to find. See second photo.

There is a whole side table full of knives there but the only two that you can just pick out in the dark is the Case Medium Stockman (top(ish)) and the Case Trapper (lower down). Both in white Sparxx.
The only "nonsense" is I kind of prefer to carry it in a belt pouch and that is a bit fiddly but it isn't terrible loose in a pocket (not like my 110).
so with out further a due I give you :
The Case Trapper in White Sparxx

Have you seen this video of him bashing Mora knives, I have never seen a Mora handle like that one, Is this just a joke.

Nope, hadnt seen the vid till now.

I doubt, that its a joke.

That is most likely his way of stating, that in his opinion, the knife in question is a POS.

Jackknife takes knives seriously and has a tendency to not beat around the bush.

He has at times been the subject of some controversy in German blade circles. At least on the German knife forums, where I am a forum member.

It's not a Mora knife in the video. It's a Lindbloms. Totally different brand.

Schrade box cutter

I was seriously interested so I looked up Schrade box cutter.
You probably were referring to another version.
In any case I can appreciate a knife with a much larger handle than blade.
A knife with box cutter like characteristics. As proof I offer for your perusal the second photo. Upon finishing the mod of the Opinel #12 my pardoner, known here as The Chef, said "Congratulations . . . you made a box knife".

So getting back to the first photo . . . which I happened upon while searching for a photo of your knife . . .
. . . what can I say ? Understated, no nonsense, fits in a watch pocket ? ! ?
. . . errrr . . . what the ______ ?
As my Mom would have said back in the day "Are you sure all THAT is necessary" ?

NICE !
So I'm not alone !
There are others (well one other anyway).
Ah . . . confirmation that I'm not crazy.
wait . . .
unless you're . . .
No !
All is well.

Handy aren't they !

Yes, very handy.

Best cardboard cutters, Ive had EVER!

One really has to pay attention, when working with them - the wafer thin carbon blades are scary sharp.

I have cut down two Opi #12.
One gets dull, the other takes over.
Finish cutting cardboard, sharpen both.
Repeat.

I bet you are going to retire it and snag one of the NEW, MODERN (see yellow stripe bellow ) box cutters with the built in grip exerciser (? ? ?).

I mean I guess I see how the designer / developer was thinking o_O :confused:
If it was good enough for our ancestors then it is important for us . . . right ? ? ? . . . ?
It's a natural.

Im not gonna' retire the Opi until its sharpened/used until nothing is left - and certainly not going to swap it for that BS people proof monstrosity (though no doubt the latter works):D

Im sure, the modern box cutter with all the bells and whistles is fine - its just not for me.

I have been thinking about cutting some flats on the handle of mine; more square shaped as yours is. I don't like a thin handle but some corners or flats give a tactile reference and some extra grip. Nice thing about the Opinels; they are so easily modified.

I dont have an Opinel, but i read that they have made a modification to the locking ring, they have added a grove that the ring runs in and now you can only turn the right one way to lock, but it`s supposed to make the lock more secure, So old and new stock will be available if it makes any difference to you.

Probably my Alox Soldier(02) on permanent kitchen duty. For probably at LEAST the last 10 years. I don’t abuse it but it’s definitely neglected. Dirt, water, soap, etc, other questionable stuff, it doesn’t even faze it. Rinse it off with hot water and go back to work.

For a folder, probably one of my Opinels. This one has a cracked locking ring (came that way second hand, but the lot of knives was a great deal. The seller offered a refund, and I declined).

It gets put in the pocket whenever working in the yard, or on one of the vehicles.

That AG Russel large "sodbuster" pattern is in the same boat. It gets tossed in glove boxes and left to rattle around.

For a fixed blade user, I chop with a KZII from Busse a good bit.

But if I'm doing real dirty chopping, or throwing a knife in the car and not caring about it, often it is a Cold Steel magnum Khukri.
