Most Overrated Folder

I hate threads like this. It's all opinions. I have several knives that are talked about in this thread (and love them all). I guess I don't see the point of it? Everyone has their favorites and least favorites. But that's what makes this community unique. It would be super boring if we all agreed on everything and all had the same knives. Why not just buy the knives you like and don't buy the ones you don't. No need to bash every knife maker as they are what give us this hobby.

I couldn't agree more.

Hey! This was taken way out of context.....

I doubt they make the boxes either. But there's a remote chance they are made from recycled pizza boxes collected from their headquarters.

Out of curiosity, what brand(s) do you usually prefer? Do you buy knives at the price points Cold Steel most often caters to, or do you prefer midtech/customs/extremely high end production folders?

I ask because it seems like most of the people who dismiss Cold Steel out of hand are also buyers of knives costing hundreds of dollars over a typical CS folder. It's like buying an Audi R8 and then complaining that the Toyota Corolla isn't fast or agile enough. I'm just trying to suss out your perspective.

Awesome. Just checkin'. :D

Any opinions on their new CTS-XHP knives? I haven't gotten one since they upgraded the steel but I'm thinking that's going to change in the nearish future.

The dlc is great very durable. Edge retention is noticeably better. But the AUS 8 liquidation was epic. I bought my share but wish I bought even more. I still like the steel.

Super upset I missed it. At the time I was on a traditional buying spree and probably wouldn't have been able to string much together, but I could have definitely gone after a few models I've been wanting for some time. Ah, well. Until the next major advance...

1 - microtech,
the 2nd - Striders, i think. Low quality blade finish, no preventing of lock worn, and there you have blade play...
anyway, why no make nice tanto like this?

Re Strider, I used to think the same... then I actually got one.

Buck Vantage Pro- S30V Steel, dual liners and liner lock.G-10 scales and very low carry...$60.The Manix 2 is a comfy feeling knife but it's actually $90-$100 on Amazon. The Manix 2 is also extremely wide in ones pocket when clipped on.Why put such a hardcore lock on the Manix blade when it isn't even swedged. The compression lock is in my opinion a weaker take on the Nakamura Lock (reverse liner lock with a hook shape) which looked more solid on a China made $45 Ridge Top knife by Benchmade/Lone Wolf.

Spyderco is probably the one knife manufacturer I can look at the blade shape and say it doesn't beat the classic clip-point,upswept skinner, and drop-point.Some of the most useless and/or limited in real world function blades for knives.Keep in mind though this is my opinion as a hunter and just what I grew up around in use on a knife.
