Motorbike road trips, traditional pocket knives, history and culture.

Put on the wet gear and set out, they told me they had snow nearby.

I am in Spain in September? 😂

It got warmer the closer I got to Zamora.

The highlights were the Shepherd with donkey and 2 dogs effortlessly controlling his flock, and the legions of Sun flowers.

Some long straights but never bored.

In great accommodation all clothes washed boots and waterproofs dried.

I need to clean and oil my bike chain but a bit tired.

Shepherd deserves some more photos,I took my 74 to breakfast this morning.

Sweet hot chocolate and churros, they still give you extra sachets of sugar just to make sure your dentist stays in businesses. 😁

Wonderful trip report. It combines three elements that I have always treasured, but never been able to put together by myself:
1. Touring Europe. Did that in 1970 and 1971, by train, VW Microbus, and thumb.
2. Touring by motorbike. Done that for 50 years, but never managed to wrangle a motorbike for Europe.
3. Touring solo. Traveling with friends is a lot of fun, but traveling solo is special. You seem more approachable and people are more inclined to open themselves up to you, in a way they do not if you are in a group, or with even one companion. Solo by motorbike is the best. The motorbike is a point of interest that invites comment.

It’s all been happening here in Zamora this weekend, just a few pics for now.

Comparing my Boker German castle covers with the old wood on Zamoras old wooden castle door.

I was bought countless shots last night, not sure If I actually bought a drink.

Came in at 5 or 6 am still feeling rough. 😂

Elvas, breakfast in the shady hotel courtyard with the cute house cat.
I realised this morning after sneaking my bike In last night (they dont mind),its right outside my window.
😆

Temperatures rising,scorchio

Literally at the end of a one lane road that leads to walking trails into the mountains,at night the sky is crystal clear.
Opened my window dear grazing 10 feet away, goats climbing sheer cliffs further on.
Met nice and interesting people, scared myself on some steep tight turns especially in ancient pre car towns.

fantastic pictures.
we are planning a trip to Portugal next year and seeing these makes it more exciting.
I won't be taking my bike, but definitely will look into renting one for a day if possible.
Will also keep an eye out for those knives. very cool and I won't regret bringing one (or three) back with me

I think you need to travel to the part of Portugal that produces port wine. Or the less traveled, less touristy areas of southern Portugal.
I think the Douro Rivet Valley is quite touristy 🙂
Tuesday.

High plains drifter on the lonesome trail.
