Moved from General Knife Discussion: Gil Hibben is selling his latest Rambo knife.

Truth is, I honestly don't care what you guys think of me.

When I first came to BF, this was a fun place where you could speak openly & honestly. And it was cool because no one took cheap shots at you for doing so. Sometimes the discussions got a bit heated. But nothing too extreme. You knew what to expect, and you gave as good as you got.

That was then.... But when the nonsense and the egos started overflowing, it became a bit much. To put it mildly.

To those who think I'm a troll, meh; I couldn't possibly care less. And I truly mean that. I've been on CPF long enough to have earned the respect of the Regulars on that site. Not exactly something that a troll would be capable of. It's a great community that, ironically, a significant number of BFers belong to as well. But, I guess it really wasn't fair of me to shatter the delusions that other BFers had. Who was I to point out that Mr. Hibbens knife looks like a used machete. I guess I should have played pretend too, and said that it looked like the $1250 custom knife that some said it is.... Yeah, I'm a bit too old to play pretend.

if you truly did not care what anyone thought, you would not continually make posts attempting to defend your actions.

Yeah, I'm a bit too old to play pretend.

Let's be honest. More like a bit too stupid to face reality.
It is a shame that common sense, wisdom and a quest for knowledge did not accompany you on this subject.

It is wonderful to be a respected member on another forum.

here you are a brainless Troll!!

Please go to those forums that respect you, there's no respect for you here. Respect on BFC is earned based on what you do on BFC. respect is not transferrable until and unless it is earned.

I guess we should give him credit. It seems he was at least able to grasp the obvious that the knife is ugly and got confirmation of it.

I think congratulations should go to Mr. Hibben, Mr. Stalone and any one else that was involved with the knife.

It seems that the knife garners just the reaction that will fit in very well with the movie. It seems that the presence of this knife in the movie will add much to the story. Great job guys.

To the clueless. Yes it does take talent and creativity to make a knife that creates an effect within a theme. A great deal of talent. With this knife Gil has again confirmed that talent as well as the talent to create and bring to reality some of the most complex designs ever seen in the custom knife world.

It is a shame that others feel the need to malign the work and or the man when reality is looking them right in the face. Must be something important missing in their lives. Especially when they can post here telling us what "nice" guys they are. Last time I looked "nice" people don't malign work and reputations without a legitimate reason that they can actually back up with logic and facts, ignorant trolls do that type of thing all the time.

I think the problem in all of this is that Stallone asked Gil Hibben to make a knife to fit into a story where Rambo is forging his own knife. Instead of having Rambo make his own knife, the story should be that he goes deep into the Bago Yoma mountain range of Burma to find a master knife maker. Unfortunately, this master knife maker has since retired and has taken an oath that he will never make another knife again. It is only when Rambo tells him that he needs the knife to attack the knife maker's former prized student who betrayed him that he relents and makes his best knife evah! Rambo then uses this knife and goes to kill Bill.

Oh wait, that movie has been made.

Typical of people who cannot man up and admit when they are wrong, Monocrom is trying to change the subject. It's not about the knife being ugly. We all agree that it's ugly. Even Gil Hibben's wife says it ugly. It is supposed to be ugly.

Monocroms first post in this thread is that he agreed with some other "expert" that the knife was worth $12.50 and not $1250. He then went on to make a complete ass of himself by stating what Gil should have done and how he should do business.

Gil is only among the most successful custom knifemakers ever and has made his living from it since 1957. Yet, Monocrom and few others presume to tell us all what he is doing wrong.

Then we hear remarks like "POS" and that nobody would ever buy it. Yet, here it is on the cover of Blade Magazine follwed by a multi-page feature article. 50 of the knives have already been sold 2 months before the movie premier. Numerous collectors and other "real knife knuts" have tried to explain to the uninformed what it is, why it is, and why people will pay the asking price. Some people will never get it if they are not willing or capable to listen and learn.

Or; Rambo heads to Burma where he meets Orville Bumfister III. Orville has been searching for his long lost son, Orville little Bumfister and his search has led him to Burma.
Fast forward: Rambo finds the kid and the bigger Bumfister gives Rambo an Art knife made by Gil Hibben and engraged by Julie Warenski.
Rambo then heads into the jungle to sharpen that baby on a rock!!!

Hey, it's John freaking Rambo meets a Bumfister in Burma, then searches and finds a little fistestuck in a fissure...............and gets a blade for his fister finding skills.

Forgot to add:

Yup, only in the movies..... The working title was rambo helps Bumfister.

And then they tell us what nice guys they are.

For those of you commenting on the sheath: BEWARE SPOILERS AHEAD

I read on another site that Rambo loses his knife from Rambo III early in the new movie which is why he's forced to make a new one quickly. He uses the same sheath as the III knife but since it is too small he cuts the end off.

And life goes full circle!

Now Rambo is ripping off "The Hunted", which was a rip off of Rambo. :D

How is it ripping of "The Hunted"?

The Hunted has a similar scenario, Benecio DeToro's character loses his knife and forges another from a car spring while on the run in the forest, while Tommy Lee Jones' character flintknapps one while chasing him.
The movie itself is watchable, but those two scenes are just utterly ridiculous to me.

And to me at least, The Hunted was a flashier more Hollywood clone of First Blood.

"troubled" SpecOps vet goes bonkers in the Pacific Northwest forests and has to be tracked down and brought in by his former commander/trainer......

Rambo forged his knife in the Rambo Part III in 1988. The scene was cut from the movie but you can see it here: Rambo Forging Scene. Gil Hibben made a video showing Sly how to do it and sent him several blades in various stages of completion for use in the scene.

So it would seem to me that if anybody copied anybody it would be that "The Hunted" copied "Rambo".

Which is what I said in post #211,

" Now Rambo is ripping off "The Hunted", which was a rip off of Rambo."

The forging scene was only one of many plot points that are similar.

minor thread revival.

for anyone interested, this months blade magazine has an article on the new rambo knife.

there is a pic showing the various generations mr hibben created, and the reasons why the knife ended up looking as it did.

mistersat posted as much, but perhaps everyone will finally believe him if they read it in print.

but they didnt have to know that!!!!

well, maybe the pics and other references all in one place will help everyone better understand.

and, for the record, i wouldnt pay that much money for that particular knife. but i certainly dont think it is a waste of money nor does it imply that mr. hibben is any less skilled because of the end design.
