Mule ZDP189?

Was it stupid joke or not - it compromises Spyderco Factory Store for me and it is Sal or other known Spyderco representative to make it clear and to assure that it is still OK.

...

And what if they don't?

Are you going to start bad-mouthing Spyderco all over the forum like you did Busse?

Before I hear from Sal clearification on their Factory Store policy and that they or anyone from Spyderco have nothing to do with this person and this comment made on Spyderco subforum - so far this is not clear in my opinion.

It is not kindergarden playground here, even you guys turning it into something like this. However time to time when kids goes too far someone need to put things back to normal.

However, I do not see this knife in Store anyway...

Thanks, Vassili.

serious vassili is very serious.

to quote my post in the movie quote thread which quotes movies:

garret: i think we're gonna have to get drunk. you need a lot of drinks.
aurora: to break the ice?
garret: to kill the bug you have up your ass!

Personally, I am not buying anything from there until it is cleared.

Thanks, Vassili.

P.S. Anyway there is nothing to buy up to he fourth week...

You are "kidding" aren't you....

It compromises Spyderco Factory Store for you and you must be reassured by Sal or some other known Spyderco representative that it is OK for you to buy something.

Do I understand that correctly????? ;) :D :D
You amaze me............

PS / There is plenty to buy in the forth week......... just not the MULE you are 'blubbering' about................ so far anyway.

shunsui, you are absolutely correct. Someone should lock this thread. It is no longer about the ZDP 189 Mule, except in the posts of a few members trying to swim against the tide.

The thread has become about Vassili's demands, and his inability to take 'yes' for an answer, and about other members inability to ignore his tantrums.

I am locking the thread temporarily. tazkristi can re-open it after you've all had a chance to cool off. My apologies to those who really do want to discuss the steel. Your questions were valid, and will be addressed shortly.

Corrective action taken, thread is re-opened, please focus on the topic, not the trolling and distractions.

:)

Patience is a virtue

As is common sense.

I will say one thing. The trolling is going to stop one way or another.

(and I mean the trolling on both sides, since they all know better!)

I sure was getting sick of seeing new posts in this thread that weren't ZDP info. I wanted to learn more. Thanks esav.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is this Mule thing? I mean no disrespect, I'm honestly curious. Is the Mule a protoype of a knife design or steel that Spyderco is looking for opinions on thus made a bunch of them and wants people to buy them? I thought they were just skeletonized handled knives...like the Izula or Becker Necker...is that incorrect? Whatever it is, it sounds pretty cool. Can someone explain this to me please? Maybe I'll end up buying one. Thanks. Gray

the mules are inexpensive knives that allow users to try out different steels.

there have been a few already, and the zdp189 is the next model being released.

From Spyderco's website:
Spyderco’s Mule Team officially launches with a single-piece fixed blade pattern. The blade is leaf-shaped with a sharpened and finished PlainEdge blade but with an unfinished handle providing some a do-it-yourself opportunity. The unfinished handle has a series of holes for attaching a custom handle or for wrapping in cord. All Mule Team Pieces are sold without handle scales or a carry sheath focusing the project on the blade steel and opening the door for the owner to create his/her own handle scale and carry options.

The Mule team project was created as a simple, inexpensive venue for "steel junkys" to have an opportunity to test different blade steels themselves. Each run will have a different interesting steel. Each run will have the same pattern, a fixed blade with a full tang. Each run will have the same thickness, grind, edge and will be heat treated to the optimal hardness for that steel. No handle, scales or sheath are provided. This not only saves you funds, but gives you the opportunity to make (or have made) custom handles and sheaths.

So far there have been 3 steels released: 1) 52100, 2) CPM-M4 and 3) CPM-S90V. The soon to be released fourth steel will be 4) ZDP-189. Hope this helps clear up the Mule project.

Very cool! That sounds really, really neat. How awesome of Spyderco to do this for it's customers! Thanks for the responses...now I'll definitely have to check into getting one or two. I am not much of a crafty person when it comes to making handles, but I'm a paracord nut! I'd love to wrap those handles. Thanks.

Mea culpa. Sorry--I hardly ever get involved in this kind of stuff. No more childishness from me.

Now, about the Mules and ZDP: I only have one of the mules, the S90V. Based on my experiences with my ZDP Delica I'm not sure that it is all that much better a performer than the S90V would be.

I trimmed a 5/8 inch V belt down to 3/8 to fit a narrow pulley by carefully whittling it down with the mule and it did about one side before losing the factory edge. I did the other side with my ZDP Delica and it did about the same. Those reinforcing fibers are seriously tough on a fine edge!

How does this jive with others experiences comparing the two?

Hi Vassili,

We just returned from Seki, Japan, so communication has been slow. My bad on the delivery date. The knives are ready. I guess we're waiting for the letter (that goes with the knife) to come in from the printer. Should be any day now.

I will beg your patience though. The Mule Team project is a "hobby" project for guys like you and me, so it may not take top priority.

As mentioned, the release of the Manix2, the Sage2, the "Customs rulling issue", plus my "day job" of running a company does at times re-arrange scheduling. Please try to keep in mind that there are fewer than 40 crew at Spyderco and we're all pushing hard all of the time to be able to do what we do.

I do appreciate your kind comments about our products being worth the money spent. That's always encouraging to hear.

As far as our refusing to sell to a customer; we've had a few that we felt were abusing our policies so we referred them elsewhere, but I don't think that you would fall into that category.

While we don't always agree with all comments made by our customers on the forums, we always respect and appreciate their points of view. Even Brownshoe's comments are important to us.

Thanks, Sal. Please, do not take it as an inpatiense. I can wait - you tell me in a month and I will wait month, you tell me year - I will wait year.

This is first time you announce that you will be doing ZDP189 27 May 2005

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=337964

An I waited and get it 20 Aug 2005.

To limit my obsession I have a rule not to by more then one knife a month. This Mule is first priority and so all others waits, because I was thinking it will be in a week. After two months I am wondering how long should all other knives to wait? Simple if it is week I wait, if it is month I go ahead and buy other knife. Just tell me how long that is it.

Thanks, Vassili.

...From other hand I can buy two Mules, because I pass two months...

Thank you for the update Sal. Boy, are you guys busy.
We all appreciate the hard work you and the SpyderCrew do for the ELU.:D

 to Sal and his crew of 40. You guys continue to innovate and create interesting knives of a wide variety.

Now if only I could afford the new Temperance 2 . . .
