Multi-Color Becker Handle Kit Now Available

I don't see any problem with the colors there are currently, but I do think there need to be more woodsy colors. I don't see why you're saying they look like toys either, O have a Fire Ant Red Izula, and I see Venom Green and bright pink ones online all the time, and no one I've seen has complained that they looked like toys. I think it's dumb to look at a Becker knife with scales that are the exact same as the stock black ones but a different color and complain that it looks like a toy.

They look like toys because toys marketed to children are usually done in bright primary colors. Therefore they look like toys.
The outdoors and military markets usually don't have much use for bright primary colors. Bright, yes. Primary? Very Duplo.

I personally don't believe I need to look like GI Joe (Ha, that's a toy) when I'm fooling around in the woods. I do agree there should be OD green and such, but I like the look of the red scales, but if you don't like them because it has a color that might be on a lego block, more power to you.

Damn! I really wanted OD Green. Bummer. Thank you KaBar for putting some out there. I really do appreciate that, but I'd love to see some more subdued colors like OD Green & Tan/Coyote Tan.

Those are... uhm... bright and cheery.
To me, the color choice is not an identity issue. It's about function.
The above colors are nice in a day-glo,rainbow kind of way, but I'd rather see colors like olive drab, coyote brown, tan, orange, or yellow--colors that are good for camouflage or for visibility.
Positive spin? Maybe this means that the Ka-Bar booth will attract lots of women this year.

I agree they should have released functional colors. Just saying I think it's ridiculous that people would judge a Becker knife by the color of it's scales. If my BK9 had pink scales I would still use it because I know the knife is an incredible tool.

I like the red, actually. But the others are a bit too out of context.
Agreed about identity vs. function.
There are accepted colors for safety/visibility, and there are accepted colors for muted blending. And black is always in fashion. ;)

As much as I don't like the pink/gender/identity thing, and the assumption that "girls like pink on anything", it clearly sells enough knives to an under-represented market segment, that I think it's a good move in this case. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if pink sells as well as the other colors in that line-up.

I do not want to be stuck with all the pinks! haha

I was kind of thinking that pink might be the real sleeper color. "Look honey, I got you a kukri for your birthday! And it's pink!"

"Look honey, I got you a kukri for your birthday! And it's pink!"

And if your wife doesn't understand knives, she may think it's a crappy gift, in which case you should get the kukri as far away from her as possible. :D

I actually think they'll sell really well. (A) It's a great deal, and (B) As my wise mother always told me, "There's no accounting for taste." :p She used to make and sell flower arrangements, and she'd sometimes make one that she absolutely detested. That's because she knew somebody was going to walk in the door and find it the most beautiful thing in the world. I think those colors will appeal to lots of folks, even including outdoors and military people.

And while we're talking new scales, how about a slightly thinner scale selection, say 2-3 mm thinner in height, to allow for liners or just a grip with less volume?

I think this opens the door for other color options in the future. I see these being pretty popular, good job Ka-Bar!

We need someone like Vik to be swinging an RBK with pink handles to break the stereotype.

Man Ka-bar doesn't work that way, I would have to buy the whole set. But I do think I could sell them pretty easy if I break the sets up. As soon as I get some it I will let you know and sell you a blue set by itself.
I wonder how well these with take dye? Maybe trying using RIT dye to change the Red or Pink to a dark Orange and the Blue and Green to OD Green?

I know that Spyderco FRN handles in Yellow are commonly dyed Orange.

Man, Still don't know why they picked these? haha Ka-Bar needs to consult the "Beckerhead's" before they make any more crazy decisions like this. lol :D
Yah, I'd have liked to have been in that marketing meeting.

Well, I hope Guyon is right and that they will sell really well. Cuz if they don't, the 'suits' will never approve more colors.

I'm glad kabar listens to their fans, but all these bright colors just turns me away from them.

It was probably: "what colors can we get without paying a surcharge for custom zytel colors the manufacturer doesn't already pour"?
