Multi-Color Becker Handle Kit Now Available

I'm probably gonna get flamed for this, but I just read through 3 pages what I consider mainly whining and crying about spilled milk.

First, people wanted options. So, Kabar comes out with some options. (Remember, the wheels of corporations change turn slowly.)
People complain that they don't like the colors.
People complain that they are not the color they want.
People complain that they'd rather have the colors in some other material.
People complain that the colors will make their knives look like toys.
People don't want to have to buy all 4 sets.

The only complaint I believe has validity is the inability to purchase just a single set. The only color I would like to ADD would be a bright orange, simply because it is more in line with hunter safety.

Putting a bright handle on a 1+ pound of steel with a sharp edge and a sharp point does not makes it a toy by any stretch of the imagination.

RELATIVELY, very few people carry the big Beckers in an urban environment where they'd stand out like a sore thumb. I'll buy these before "wasting" money on either an olive or forest green. To me, black is just as good as either olive or forest green at "hiding" the knife in the woods. The bright colors will do just what they are expected to do - give people the ability to locate a knife more easily when it is misplaced "in the wild" somehow - falls out of a sheath, is laid down, slips off a log, etc.

Exactly what I mean. "I'm going out to have fun with my knife, I need to look like I'm a Navy SEAL and have tactical colors!"

or black would do.
can I buy replacement black scales? please?

It seems that there was no market analysts present at the meeting
What were they thinking about when they choose these colors?
Just profile the people you are selling to, then ask would they want these colors?
What makes it less understandable is that they did do good colors on the handles for the 14/24

A set of four pairs makes sense, as most folk that would buy replacement handles most likely already have multiple knives in the same size

I would also like to see Tweener handles

Kabar does like its neon zombie green...
Safety orange
OD
Replacement Black and coyote?

There's a complaint validity scale? :p

Yes. The unit of measure is 'peeves', abbreviated 'pu'.

Start a Facebook petition.

not a terrible idea, but I try not to link my facebook profile to anything commercial. I liked something from Colt once, and haven't made that mistake since.

I think it's pretty obvious what Ka-Bar is doing. They are trying to EXPAND the market passed us, and on to younger people, and women. Guys like me posting up pictures of my kids, and my girl in the woods with Beckers in our hands are driving decisions like this. And yes, I started a thread asking about color options for the stock Zytel to help us families tell our knives apart. And yes I did mention pink for the hen, and the other colors as possibilities. Be glad this is happening. It's getting Beckers out there to more people. Isn't that one of the beckerhead missions? I like the fact they come in sets of four. My family has already claimed our colors. Still... I want me some neutrals. ;)

This is great news!

My wife was looking over my shoulder and said "Those look nice! How much are they?"
Me "$40 for all 4"
Her "Wow - that's a good price! Do you want them?"
Me "Well, I already have micarta for my 2 big Beckers"
Her "Becker sells different knives than you already have...right?"
Me "Why yes, yes they do!"

I love my wife! :D

Damn! This NEVER happens to me.

Well KA-BAR already makes handles in Orange, Peanutbutter(Read Coyote), and Zombie green, so I am really surprised that those arent three of the first colors realease. I am excited though to see them moving in this kinda direction.

Well, I'm over the initial Easter-colors shock. Now I'm thinking I have to have an all-pink BK-9.

It's on.

Wow, some of you guys are harsh!

Now I'm tempted to not only go all pink like Guyon suggested, but even one step further with a fully bedazzled sparkly rhinestone unicorn-adorned rainbow sheath, just to annoy the haters :D

I don't see any problem with the colors there are currently, but I do think there need to be more woodsy colors. I don't see why you're saying they look like toys either, O have a Fire Ant Red Izula, and I see Venom Green and bright pink ones online all the time, and no one I've seen has complained that they looked like toys. I think it's dumb to look at a Becker knife with scales that are the exact same as the stock black ones but a different color and complain that it looks like a toy.
I personally don't believe I need to look like GI Joe (Ha, that's a toy) when I'm fooling around in the woods. I do agree there should be OD green and such, but I like the look of the red scales, but if you don't like them because it has a color that might be on a lego block, more power to you.
I agree they should have released functional colors. Just saying I think it's ridiculous that people would judge a Becker knife by the color of it's scales. If my BK9 had pink scales I would still use it because I know the knife is an incredible tool.
Exactly what I mean. "I'm going out to have fun with my knife, I need to look like I'm a Navy SEAL and have tactical colors!"
Okay, you don't agree with the "looks like toy colors" comment. That is their opinion. The posts seem a bit patronizing, especially considering you keep saying you would like different colors too.
I think some members were just initially surprised at the color selection since the threads about new scales in the past usually had the same color preferences mentioned in them. The colors will probably grow on them and they will still be ordering the scales.;)

I'm wondering what these scales look like in different lighting. The camera may have made them look a little lighter than they really are.

Whooooo..... Where to begin...... Before I saw this I was at the Military store getting some stuff embroidered for SHOT Show and the guy behind the register had on a ball cap in a very nice subdued camo......I complimented him on his taste and as I was leaving I remembered that at a camo class I attended some years ago the guy in the coyote coveralls by Carhart disappeared better than anybody but the King of the Mountain stuff and it was a damn near thing....... I think I look like hell in Carhart coveralls but they really work.......I am also convinced that for the most part the smart money wears VERY distinctive colors in the woods as a safety matter....... Toxic Green, Flourescent blaze orange, and especially blue tarp blue........ According to Doug Ritter shitty "blue tarp blue" is the least natural color and stands out best......... Jeff Randall claims that "tactical pink" is the way to go........ Having said all this I still go to the woods in subdued medium value browns, olives, grays and "coyote"...... This does not make me smart but, it makes me feel good...... That good feeling could make me a hell of a lot harder to spot if I am injured, unconscious or lost....... Like most of the rest of us I grew up trying to hide..... Hide and seek, cowboys vs. indigenous warriors with English accents, National Socialists or Russians vs. the good guys, etc..... Old habits are really hard to break........ Every time I hunt Northern Ontario I run into hunters that look like they are spray painted from head to toe in fluorescing blaze orange and it always make me shudder......Which is stupid......

Anyway if you are looking to not lose your knife in the weeds the blue is a real good bet and so is the pink and then I think the green with red for the fire service guys with Tactuls..........

Mine will stay black except for the blades I carry in the RTV and on the tractor and most likely to be left at a work site .......

The knife or knives in your BOB, for times when losing the knife is really not an option, think pink, blue or toxic green...... Also a Tactool with a blue handle may look less lethal to an anti-knife member of law enforcement........

I really like some of the other color possibilities but these colors are more purpose driven than fashion statement......

Just a wee mid morning rant and some things to think about......

Man Ka-bar doesn't work that way, I would have to buy the whole set. But I do think I could sell them pretty easy if I break the sets up. As soon as I get some it I will let you know and sell you a blue set by itself.
Keep us posted and let us know when you get some sets in.
