Multiple

Is it common to buy two of a knife when it's discontinued? Not so much to recoup the money spent, but to own, use or safe king?

For me it’s not monetary reasons. I just want a backup in case I lose or damage the original. Look at how hard Slysz Bowie’s are to find now at a reasonable price.

Not a problem with most of my blades-Emerson’s, Paramilitary 2, etc. I know I can always find one of those.

It's a screwy knife. The blade is too thick, and the stupid hole in the blade annoys me […] I have no shame about owning piles of them.

Yes it’s screwy! The well executed idiosyncrasies make the knife more enduring to me! I do like the hole for opening the knife with a pinch grip.

@evilgreg the blond CF looks amazing!

Yup, sometimes even in triplicate but not "exactly" the same. I usually put a mirrored 15 dps edge on one knife, a toothy 20 dps on the other. Then I'll add a DLC or BW version if available.

If I didn’t have a couple of these I might have to delete my BF account. I may be among the very few who prefer the sabre grind to the full flat grind. The reason being I like the tip strength the sabre grind provides.

Still I couldn’t pass up the chance to own the ZDP delica. For some reason the ZDP one came with an amazing smooth action that has a more free blade that is easier to flick.

All good thoughts as they say, no wrong answer, myself I am still working through the mechanics of saving for a bronze one, but also I am rethinking if I my life would truly be enhanced by the arrival of a safe queen ;) probably not really, so it all might have been a pipe dream from the start, well, lack of funds certainly plays a factor, I guess that's more like a sour grapes scenario :)

Right now I've been using this and it's been exceptional, in carry, opening, cutting...such a thin sharp edge does so well ! and lockup and release, all play a role in using the knife at any one time.

That is precisely what I did with the one Vic SAK I liked. I heard it was discontinued when I visited a big knife store and immediately started checking dealers who still might have one. Bought several at that time and then I discover that I already had a couple "spares". It is no collection; they are to use when it's time.

I picked up a couple of lenses for my iPhone SE, a company by the name of Moment, they make really great lenses, I have a wide angle and a macro but for me the macro you have to get so close that I don't shoot a lot of tiny things that often and will be sending that lens back, but, I also have a superfisheye and a tele photo inbound to round out the lenses from them.

Here's a shot using their macro lens

I will add though, even though I less often go hunt down multiples of new purchases after I realize I like it, but there are times. The Rough Rider/Colt line has been one that I treat like candy in a countertop bowl. Just keep fishing. Eat some, share the rest. ;D.

I actually almost bought the CF version of this crazy thing. It was in the cart multiple times, but each time I decided to sleep on it, and managed to go one more day. I really don't know why, but I just groove it. Interesting to just sit and look at. Absolutely perfect action. Smooth throw, locks tight, no play, and falls shut. And the blade shape....Well it actually excelled at all of my office and warehouse duties. It is already very light, but tempted to see what the same thing would be like with an instant 25% weight cut. Not to mention that I really like carbon fiber also. But alas, I'm still in a one Eschaton camp.

Gotta admit, I bought both Eschatons...

Yes, but only for one knife so far.

The Spyderco Southard was my first Exchange purchase and I was completely blown away. I never want to be without one and I think they’re undervalued, so I grabbed another one, which sits in my safe as a backup. When BHQ had them on liquidation, I picked up the black one. What an insane value that was! I wish I’d gotten more, but cash was tight at the time.

There are a few hateful Southard posts in another thread right now. My user has held up wonderfully and looks almost new. I guess some folks had a different experience.

The Southard is a great knife.

Bought one and like it a lot.

Dont get the frenetic badmouthing of it.

At one time I had more multiples but I typically end up selling them. I value variety and I also strive to limit the size of the collection.

That’s me. I only have 8 knives right now. And no multiples. Only 2 or 3 knifes I would like to have at this point on top of what I have. If I don’t carry a knife I get rid of it. Never been a collector. Just not wired that way. I might buy a knife for looks from time to time, but it will stay based on how it performs.

The more I am using this one, I am feeling less that I really need a safe queen, could just be my wallet talking ;) but I am not afraid to see any scratches on this, mainly wanted to get those photos taken before anything could happen to its finish. Still loving the knife, people that handle it, non knife types, are intrigued as I show them the knife and it's features. I'll make some more converts !

Nice. So do you like one more than the other?

The titanium version has a more solid feel, but I like the non-blackened blade on the CF one.

The CF version will be a great blade length for a light package with shorts this summer!

Thinking about you this weekend Gary at the Shenandoah Valley knife show....everyone was reminiscing about the ol' days at the Chesapeake show :)
