Multiple

Long time ago, but a great time to, always remember that!

Anyone ever buy a knife and like it so much that you feel like you need to buy another one so you can use one and have a safe Queen too?

I have to admit, I've done this with a great many of my knives. Even regular production, general utility-intended knives have been given such a treatment. Buck 110, Buck 119, KA-BAR F/U USMC, Becker BK9, Cold Steel Shanghai Shadow, etc. I've got a lot of knives that are in unused, new condition. A lot of the collectible knives on the market today were just regular pocket knives back when they were first released and cost very little, and look at where they are now.

The regular production knives are the best ones to collect if you luck out down the road. Frankly, I would have no idea what some of my older knives are worth as I don't pay attention to the secondary market. I really don't know how to pay attention the secondary market.

Just took a few pictures tonight of my new one, a beauty and I am not a fan of carbon fiber as most people will have it too smooth or slick, these guys cut great grooves throughout to provide a solid gripping surface and still have the cool carbon fiber factor of light and good looking, nicely done.

Now, I know this would not be for everyone, which is a great thing, that is why there are SO many knife makers, designers and buyers out there, but for me, I love it...

Can we get an action video of this? I have heard it is reallyyyyy good but have not seen any videos up.

I've never bought one as a backup for the primary user knife, no. However, I have bought the same knife in a different blade grind (ie. tanto and drop point), as I liked and wanted to have both.

Thanks, I was hesitant even when BladeHQ checked the edge thickness, they came back with .5mm so if it was that at least, I figured it would be a good slicer and I was very happy when she arrived and saw that they did take some what of a risk by grinding the blade thinner than most of what I've seen them do.

I’ve never purchased multiples. I prefer to keep my collection small, so anything I own is a user.

The Lionsteel Ti-Spine was very nearly an exception. I live near where the old KSF storefront was, which resulted in fondling and buying one. Once I put it in use, I was smitten. I very nearly ran back to get a second. It’s great in hand, slices well, and is ridiculously beautiful. Even that beauty couldn’t get me to justify a safe queen.

I have bought different handle materials for the same model slip joint but not two identical models (yet).

I did just buy a second Bark River Bravo EDC in a different steel and will have modifications done to the blade so in essence it will not be the "same" knife but similar

Ok, I must admit to one more offense of multiplicity. I've purchased at least 50-100 (maybe more), inexpensive Barlows over the years. What can I say, I have a problem. :D. If someone asks to borrow a knife, I give them a Barlow. If an unexpected unknown b-day pops up....You guessed it....Barlow. Convo about knives? Comment about modern superior to traditional? Extended fam member shows up to a party with young knife aged kids? One of my kids show up with new friend? For some reason, my kids are actually embarrassed that any new friend of theirs that I don't recognize, goes home with a knife. But what parent doesn't thoroughly enjoy embarrassing their kids. ;).

Started with Schrades, then on to RR's because I liked the big jump in quality with minimal cost difference. Plastic to bone scales, stamped to solid bolsters. But then ran across the Rite Edge Barlow. Materials were "good enough", but the lowest cost of all of them. Wood scales, solid bolsters, and for those used to modern knives, even a lanyard hole. But if I'm talking with a newly minted Scout, I like to pull a Sarge Barlow, because they have the scout shield etched on the bolster.

Though not always a Barlow. But a fun preference because of a namesake connection. I've also done many lockbacks. I picked up dozens of a Colt liner lock flipper and dropped off at a local Scout troop. The price was simply too good.

Not saying any of this to brag. Just sharing what I consider to be one of the fun aspects of my knife hobby. So buy multiples if you want. Enjoy the hobby. Share the hobby.

Cool thread, Gary W. Graley Gary W. Graley , and it's given me pause to consider what I have, like, back up, and use.

Knives in my collection fall into the 3 categories of Drawer Queens, Light Users (though the term Pocket Jewelry is good, too), and Users. I keep trying to cut down on the first two categories and have been largely successful with the DQs lately. I have one large 21 Bocote inlayed CRK, one lionSteel TiSpine Damascus, one Shiro Tabargan, and probably a couple more in that category.

I have lots of LUs that do get carried and some that get carried, but used extra carefully, my black-bladed knives falling into the latter category as I just can't stand to see their blades marked and scratched up. I try hard not to buy any more of those and have sold some off just to get away from them. Oddly, what pleases me with the rest of the Light Users is when one does get a scratch or a blem and ends up a true user or work knife, then I have something I really like in my pocket that I don't have to think twice about putting to work, though I'll not abuse anything to the point of ruination other than one of my second-carry beaters. I've got some really expensive users now that get pretty unfettered use. :)

More on-topic--as to back-ups, the only ones I've doubled exactly are stock BM 710/705s, as that combo is kinda special to me and I have a like-new pair that I'll keep that way. I do have lots of multiples of other knives in different iterations--Spyderco Millies, PM2s, 5 Tenaci, all the Sages; multiple BM Strykers, a couple more variants of the 710, AFCKs, Barrages, Propers; a couple lionSteels; multiple CRK 21s and 25s.

I've got so many damn knives now that I really don't want to have anymore Drawer Queens and will limit the light users. If I buy something now and can't bear to put it in the rotation, I'd rather sell it while it's still clean and move on.

Everytime I see a Spyderco Delica on sale I buy it. I think that qualifies. Have some lined up in boxes, I don't even fondle them, they just sit patiently waiting for their turn if it ever happens.;);)

Some great posts there, good idea on giving those Barlows out! solid knives and makes a great gift !

Thinking back on what I use to own, double wise, Sebenzas and like I said the Willian Henry Lancet models, oh if I had only kept those a while longer, had no idea they would go up in value! So, that is also a reason to go for a double, but, my sales usually are at a loss, I just consider the money difference as a rental fee ;)

Since moving from our home of 34 years, which took over 3 years to finally sell ours, during those 3 years we slowly got rid of any excess, of anything, knowing that what ever we got rid of was one less thing to try and move out. So that got me in the 'reduction' mode of my knife collection. Down to only a handful of knives right now, which isn't a bad thing, less to figure what one to carry, but this folder I'm still thinking it could be the one, and that's inspiring to me, after such a long time of buying and selling knives.

Haha, you and most all my family and my work family think alike !

And you made me remember my other obsession with mulitples, the Opinel Slim series, those were very nice as well and down to two of them, one I made into a small sheepsfoot.

They too are now gone, nice knives all !!!
