"Multiples" or "The Knife So Nice You Bought It Twice"

I had two SOG Tridents about 8 years ago, satin clip point and TiNi tanto. One was sold, one given away. I've never owned duplicates since then.

2 - Para 2s.....digi camo black and satin.....because they are great flickers!
2 Hogue EX-04.....1 3.5", 1 4"..both wharncliffe..because they are SICK!!
4 940s.......2 for my sons and 2 for me.....because they are insane cool!!!

Most of the time if I find a knife that I really like and it is a limited-production (which most of my favorites seem to be), I pick up a second to keep as a backup in case I ever lose the one I use.

Yep.
My brother wishes he had a back-up Poliwog...

I had given him my Spyderco Poliwog.
It was getting a lot of use at work.
The clip got a little loose, so he put it on the car at a worksite, intending to tighten the clip.

A call came in; he jumped in the car and rushed off to get there.
He didn't take the knife off the car first though...:foot:

When he checked later, it was gone from the spot it likely will have landed.

Luckily he has other knives, but he liked that one.
He asked me where to get another one, and they seem hard to find.

Buying a back-up is simply knife insurance. :)

The closest I am to multiples is the Benchmade 913 Stryker. It is one of my favorites, not made anymore, so I bought a second as a backup. These are identical satin blade models, later I found a third but it has the coated blade.

Otherwise in my EDC rotation-
I have 2 PM2's- the S110V version and a digicam S30V version, bought so I could RIT dye it
I have 4 Manix 2's, they all have different steels
I have 2 Manix 2 XL's that are identical, the S90V version. I bought 2 so I would have a spare, or for something I could use for trading later
I have only 2 Spyderco Militaries but they are identical Cruwear versions. The second one was an accident from a pre-order mixup

Makes sense to me. I ve done the same several times using that reasoning.

Camillus Cuda.
I want another CRKT M16 14M or M16 14T (Preferably)
All wonderful knives. Well worth the money.

Unknown number of Vic Classics (mainly because I wanted to transplant the handles);
2 Vic Rallys;
3 waved Delicas, all snubnosed;
4 Boker Trances, (a 42, a standard, and two bobbed to "Whart" configuration);
3 CS Mini Tuff Lites (there was a sale, I swear...);
2 Buck 310s;
2 Vic Tinkers (a standard and a Gadsden).

This excludes the ones I thought I'd like and bought two of, only to hate--or find wanting--and want out of my life.

I agree. If you really like a particular knife and especially if you use it, a backup makes a lot of sense simply because as mentioned about leaving one lie on a car and drive off.... loosing knife. I have done the driving off thing with DSLR cameras and have kicked my butt for it more than once. But fortunately in the case of cameras, I never lost or damaged one. I basically remembered in time. All it takes is a slight lapse of memory or breaking your routine to loose a knife.

The biggie for me was always with slippies hunting small game.... shoot rabbit or squirrel, field dress and stick knife in ground because it's bloody and you're busy doing other stuff. Great recipe for loosing a knife. The same applies to deer. I walked off once leaving a knife, but went back for it and found it. It's always for the same reason, you're busy and the knife is bloody. So, rather than taking the time to clean it at that moment, you lie it down.

PM 2s - I have 4
BM 940 - I have 2

I think that's about it... none are duplicates though, all different versions.

Hmmm - different versions of the same knife...are they only duplicates if they are exactly the same?
If that is the case, I have no duplicate RMDs - just variations (handle color, blade color, blade material)
