My Attempt to Skeletonize a 110

Sure.....you wanna re-imburse me? :D  :D

No! :grumpy:

But I might be interested in *buying* the camera...This one I have sucks... :(

It's pretty bad when your 10 year old scanner takes better pics than your digital camera...

I'm up to Plan C now...

Got the bevel cutters in today. One 60* and one 45*, both Carbide. They're rotary files actually. I'm planning on turning them in my drill press or mill (haven't decided which yet) at highest speed and drawing the scale into the cutter.

I was planning on using a 3/8" or 1/2" ball bearing, but there are clearance/adjustment issues, so instead of a bearing I'm going to press a short piece of brake tubing into a steel plate [.125" above plate surface] and use that for my "bearing". The cutter will be co-axial with the tubing, and extend into it. Only the corner of the scale will touch the cutter, for a depth of ~.030".

Sounds good, doesn't it??? How many holes do you think I can put in the wall trying it???  :D

Trax, truely, holes in the wall would be of little concern...it would be holes in hand, head or heinie:eek: that would be of concern to me. Do be careful. Mom:D

Well, the bevel/chamfer on the outer circumference is done...at least as done as I intend to get it... :D And I still have most of my fingers... ;)

I went with the 45* cutter, and because the rockerbar relief is closer to the rim than on a real Buck, I couldn't bevel as much as I'd have liked...but I'm satisfied with it...

The finger grooves turned out to be the easiest part of the beveling...(and the thumb relief)...The long curve along the rockerbar edge was the hardest...

You can see there is a "ripple" effect, some of which is pics/scanners; but mostly because I used a bushing instead of a ball-bearing...it's not really smooth... :grumpy:

But I don't mind tool marks, and I'm certainly not going to try to buff the edges or any foolishness like that...the tool marks stay...

I'll try beveling the edges of the holes tomorrow or Monday...

It may not look too different, but it feels a lot better... ;)

I had some time today, so I put a bevel on the holes...It's a little uneven looking; I think that's because the scale itself is a bit uneven...

But I think this is going to be the end of the machine work...I'll try to get a "brushed" look on the flat face of the scales, probably with coarse 180 or 220 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper, and buff the brass so it shines through...but that can wait for a while...

Here's another view...You just knew there had to be a reason for me making one of these...

  ...Great looking project Trax...You deserve a ton of respect for your tenacity to think of something and bust your butt to see it thru like you do...Fantastic job my friend...
